If you have original Win98 CD (upgrade) do you need a license?

I upgraded from 95, and have original 95 cd also. Do I need a license to be legal?

In other words, is the Original CD count as a license?

You need a licence for every instence of the operating system. One licence for 95 one for 98. You can only have it installed on one machine. According to the licence.

Do you have the cd key if you do and you have the CD made by microsoft then yes it is a legal copy... put it this way if you buy a car and lose the pink slip is it considered stolen?

The only way you'll have the cd and not a liscense is:

A) You pirated it (you don't sound like one)
B) You SPECIFICALLY bought a CD sans liscense, in which case you'd probably know that you did.

Buying liscenses is only used if you want to install to another computer, or if you already know somebody with the software then you can borrow their disks (and copy them if you want) so long as you purchase a liscense (which makes getting software much easier, especially if you're a student or teacher. a Windows 2000 liscense runs at a measly $54, while Win9x is like $46).
