Question If you have bought a CPU in the last 3 years or so (since Ryzen came out) What was it ?

I have gotten one or more of every AMD choice, including EPYC and threadripper. My signature has most of the details. I also got a couple of 14 core Xeons.

My complete list is:
Quantity, then breakdown.

3 - 1xxx series Ryzen
4 - 2xxx Series Ryzen
4 - 3xxx series Ryzen (still have)
9 - threadripper, 6 1950x, 2 2990wx, 2770wx
2 - 14 core Xeons
5 - EPYC, 2 7742, 2 7601, 7551 7452


After reading a few posts here, I am curious.

I wish there were more choices (more than 10) allowed, so I did my best to categorize.

Update: as of 9/22/2020 at 1:46 pm below are the percentages (rounded to the nearest % point)
Ryzen all series 71%
Threadripper all series 5%
Intel 4,6,8 CORE 15%
AMD other 3%
Intel other 6%
EPYC 1%

Its certainly obvious that this community vastly favors AMD since Ryzen came out 3 years ago. AMD total 79%, Intel 21%

Edit: since the poll allows up to 3 votes each, 300% could be the total. I calculated real numbers/total

Ryzen 3 2200g and then Ryzen 3 3100. Got the 3100 instead of the 3300x as it was actually in stock and not $20-30 over msrp.

i5-10400. Cheap, solid for gaming, Office and web browsing, which is what I do with the machine. Fast, quiet, happy with it. I looked at gaming scores compared to the Ryzen 3600 and went with Intel for obvious reasons. I also like Intel being happy with RAM and XMP out of the box and not worrying about chipset drivers. I know that most people have no issues with today's AMD platforms but I dunno. I don't have time for any chances.

I have like 8 other machines here anyway.

Oh, we got a mac mini to replace a really old iMac upstairs. That has an i5-8500 in it. Mainly used for my daughter's school work.

Will probably put a Rocket Lake chip in this z490, then move the i5 into a mini-itx build. Eyeing the Sliger Conswole, which will fit my GTX1070 for a nice HTPC/gaming box connected to the TV upstairs. Expecting to get a 3080 for my main rig in a few months or early next year.

Upgrades this year. The 9400F would probably be an AMD build, except for me having 32GB of DDR4 2666 memory and needing a place to put it. Also, I picked up the 9400F for $105 new locally, so it was very price effective all around.

Eh, AMD chipsets have their quirks - like reduced SATA performance on X570, StoreMI being axed and later resurrected without support for 300-series chipsets, chipset drivers not installing properly etc.

StoreMI discontinued but newer version came later:

This actually took effect at the end of last month. Shouldn't be much of a deal given how useless StoreMI actually is in this age of sub $100 1TB SATA SSDs, and likely all Socket AM4 users are already using a dedicated NVMe drive for their OS...

I was wrong about 300-series support as they were never supported in the first place, but it would seem strange that they're not supported while the 400-series are, given that there is not much difference between the actual chipsets.

An issue back in April 2020? Is this still an issue cause I currently do not have any SATA devices in my X570 gaming rig. That, however will change once I upgrade my daily/main rig.

Maybe it's just me, but every single serious driver/RAID controller/software quirk I've experienced had "issue with AMD such and such" listed in the cause. They may be better now, but I'm still not going back.
