I know that everyone doesnt know about this, so I think its a hot deal, it dramatically increases readability of lcd screens.

Most won't think so, but this is a "Hot Deal", IMO.

I just reformatted my PC and forgot all about re-enabling ClearType. Reminded me of the difference it makes. I'm sure most LCD users aren't aware of it.

I didn't know about it, and everything still looks the same to me.

Thanks for the info tho, very interesting...

:)

I even use ClearType on my CRT. It gives it an anti-aliased look, rather than the jagged lines.

It depends though, it only improves things on some lcd's, not all. In fact, most new LCD's don't need ClearType and using it actually makes readability worse. DVI is the best solution ;)

I don't notice much of a difference either.

All of the options made my 1905FP look worse, not better. I guess it can't get better :p

ClearType makes my old laptop look like a whole new PC!

But if tech tips were hot deals, don't forget to defrag!

Hey, I tried the cleartype tuner in powertoys and it works great. My text looks much better.

Not always....

Cleartype truly sucks on most laptops. Text becomes completely washed out and blurred when cleartype is on. I hate cleartype. Makes text blurry and washed out.

I have perfect vision and I have owned 5 laptops and 3 LCD monitors. Cleartype sucks. I cant tell you how many times I surprise people by turning cleartype off.

Everytime someone I know gets a new laptop they complain the screen looks bad. I tell them to turn cleartype OFF and they are simply amazed how much more focoused and sharp everything is.

Turning cleartype on = BIG mistake....

Tried ClearType on my desktop with a JTX V7s LCD. The difference is "clearly" noticable.

Yeh. Chalk up another Microsoft public relations blunder. They are really effing idiots.
3 Cheers for open-source.

Clear type probably won't work if you aren't using the native resolution of your LCD monitor.

I like the difference on the 1800FP on DVI. I guess I'll have to try it when I finally fire up my 2005 at home.

Microsoft also has the Clear Type Tuner listed on their pwertoys website.

People who don't like cleartype, have you tried the tuner?

For those who never used it, try out the tuner, it lets you see sample texts or each setting, so you can easily decide if it's right for you.

I'm trying it out now. It looks like ClearType emulates a CRT in a way. Now I can see the small blue and red streaks on each side of the text. I always hated that so I'm not sure if I like this. Letters appear bolder.
