If you have a Trinitron? monitor and a 64MB Radeon, look inside...

Yucky, I don't have another to swap with. I am sure that it is not a "bad card" considering the simple fact that the URL I provided shows a lot of people with the SAME problem. All that do have a problem are using a Trinitron as well.

yep, after half an hour of reading that long post I must agree that it is the video card... not to mention that I also am using the 64MB radeon w/ a 21" trintron.

BTW flickering is not the correct word to describe this problem... more like shimmering. It looks like waves going down you're screen like a water oscillation effect. This occurs at all resolutions and all refresh rates, although at 800*600 and lower, the problem is less noticeable. I run my desktop at 1024*768 and I don't really notice unless I am looking at a darker colored background w/ light colors or unless I look closely. It is usually most noticeable at the right and left edges of the screen. I sure hope ATI can get this resolved through drivers

that issue was hit hard head on in the first post and some 🙂

Not done reading.. but damn, i was planning an AIW radeon + 900NF sometime (well, hopefully anyway)...

Yes, I described it as a shimmering effect in my original post.

NO adjustments fix the problem (for now), and it is NOT a refresh rate issue.

Crap that's one more thing for me to think about. I am trying to decide between a GF2 MX and a Radeon.

Does this flickering problem happen on non-Trinitron monitors?

Not on non-trinitrons, and not on my trinitron based ViewSonic PF815...got a 64MB DDR, mine was retail is that makes a difference. 2D BLOWS AWAY my old GTS...get the Raedon...if it shimmers try another one or two, and if it still happens take it back for the MX...

I'm running 1600x1200 (Finally! It was way too blurry with my GTS) at 85Hz 32bit color

BFG10K, nope.

Guys, if you have questions about this issue and more, PLEASE read the info in the URL I provided in my original post. 🙂

Arthur, I run 1600x1200 32bit 85Hz, and my 64MB GF2 GTS is NOT blurry in 2d/3d. I will say the overall image quality of the Radeon surpasses the GF2. 🙂

From what I have read, this problem is specific to some NVidia and Radeon cards when they are feeding Trinitron (i.e., Sony tube) monitors. My understanding is that it does not affect other aperture grille monitors (i.e., Mitsubishi's Naturally Flat tubes found in the Samsung 900NF).

Napalm

I have the Mitsu Diamondtron NF 900U 19". Looks great at any resolution with my Radeon 64 meg. Must be only "real" Trinitrons.

I do have (can't tell by looking at me though) a lazy left eye. My right eye is the only one that can read any text beyond the big E at the optomotrists...my right eye is 20/20 though...left eye just serves for peripheral...anyway...I could read it, but in the input box here in the forums (for example) it was a tad blurry, I could read it, but my eyes began to hurt after a while (probably cause of the one eye doing all of the work.) I guess that is what I was getting at with "blurry"

Edit: I got my Raedon from Hawk in the FS forums here, and paid $250...maybe he has a good batch? I have not heard of any that bought from him having a problem...but I think he was gonna quit selling. Maybe that will help? I dunno.

The problem might or might not be the build 56 or 63. I'm guessing its the DAC? I can't remember what it is right now but Ben Skywalker knows more about than i do. I haven't seen it on mine yet. ATi knows about this problem and from what i keep hearing it was only on Triniton tubes and not Diamondton tubes by Mitsubishi?( I'm still clued by that)

I am sorry guys, whoever bought one from me...=( Hopefully ATI fixes this problem before you all sell your cards? But you are right, I noticed that it said the DAC was only 250 Hz in the drivers section (Win2k, 3043).

I have a 32MB radeon and do not see the wave. I have KDS Av19-Tf monitor (1280x1024x32). Hmmmm maybe this only affect on some 64mb Radeon. Maybe a bad lot.

Very strange problem indeed.

But if you go thru the thread (what a long one that was), some ppl w/ the mitsubishi based tube DID have that same problem.

Hopefully something gets hammered out. What I find strange as this isn't noted in any review of the Radeon I've seen (anyone care to wrong me on this?)... and I would think at least ONE of them did it on a 19" trinitron (sony or otherwise) based monitor.

I bought mine from Hawk. My DAC showed 350 in the properties with the "special" win2k drivers.

Russ, I tried 2 different monitor .inf files already. It is related to the drivers and a sony tube....period!
