which one would you give up?

edit: let's say that you couldn't add a tv card on your pc. And on your tv you have like all channels

I gave up my TV... my house up by the campus has no TV... not in a single room.... I use my computer/anandtech.com as a form of entertainment now

Hard to say... especially when my TV consists of a 'test' DirecTV system with all channels open (for the US stuff), and my Canadian cable company (for the Cdn stuff).

But in the end, the TV would probably have to go...

TV goes without a second of thought. Then I buy a $70 CDN TV card and watch TV on my comp:p

Toss that t.v. It was a freebie anyways (27" for nutthin, no loss there!) Besides, I spend way too much money on cable when I never watch it.

The only thing wrong with the computer is that it's not exactly a group activity.. you can't gather your family around a computer and watch a movie.

Considering I never even watch TV (aside from Frasier every weekday :)), the computer wins by a long shot.

You guys are turning the computer into the TV... but the question was more to the functionality of the TV than the physical TV.

But yeah, i would choose a computer over a TV... there are other things you can do with the family like taking them to the theatres, or family outtings.

And i know i would much rather have my kids be on the computer for 3-4 hrs a day than watching TV for 3-4 hrs.

as much as i love my home theater system, if i could still watch movies on my thinkpad, i'd stay with it (it's got a dvd already, so..). i don't watch much tv anymore, instead of watching football yesterday i "watched" the yahoo sports coverage (which refreshed every minute or so). i could get by i think. if i had to.
