I would never devote myself to a "selfless" cause. The only reason to devote yourself to *any* cause is because you personally *care* about that cause a great deal, which, like it or not, is a *selfish* act.

Just to be clear, the word Selfish doesn't imply virtue nor vice, it merely means "concern with one's own interests" in the simplest possible definition.

no such thing as selfless cause, dont you watch seinfield?

ok, i'll be selfish while helping people out and make sure to rub it in how much i saving them means to me.

Why would it be rubbing it in for it to mean a lot to you to help? Should you devote your life to a cause you *don't* personally care about? Would you consider that *more* moral than devoting yourself to a cause you *do* care about?

I would become a vigilante and apply my own style of justice. Also, I would not require a discount at the donut shop.

I would be a lawyer.

Stop laughing.

I'm not laughing. I can honestly say that the most noble, honest, decent, moral man I have *ever* met in my life is an attorney. His name is Tim Sandefur, and he works for the Pacific Legal Institute. His speciality is constitutional law, specifically with regards to cases in which large corporations or state, local and federal governments trample over peoples' right to their property, to earn a living and similar cases. Every time I've been out with him over the last couple of years he's invariably handing his card out to people who are downtrodden or being hassled by regulatory authorities and telling them "If you need a lawyer, call me, and I'll take your case for free."

He's really an amazing individual, and a genuine hero in a world where there are too few.
