Let's say someone had an obsession or longing for a particular year, it has meaning to them for what ever reason. You buy things that represent that year, listen to the music of that year, basically the same as a decade obsession except a bit more contained. So anyway I was thinking, if you wanted to buy a car that represented that year, would you buy one made in the year before but has the correct model year or would you buy one made in the desired year but has the next model year. For example if you love the year 1972, would you buy a 1972 model year car made in 1971 or would you buy a 1973 model year car made in 1972?

You'd buy the official model year regardless of when it was made. You're gonna look like an idiot telling people your 74 Thing is a 73 when they can plainly see that it isn't.

you buy a 2009 made in 2009.

You know car manufacturers don't just make a car for two months and sell that supply for a whole year, yes? They continue manufacturing that model well into the actual model year.

I'd buy the model of that year, it's easier then trying to explain it was actually made a year earlier.

What I don't get about cars though is why they release a certain year model a year later. For example when they released the "2000" model of a certain car if it actually came out in year 2000 it would of been so much cooler to see them come out, but yet they came out in like early 1999 so seeing a "2000" model car is not all that impressive as it was not even the new millennium yet.

as long as the tires are at sidewall, the gas tank is half full of cement and there is no sunroof to kill your mileage, I say go for it. If it comes with a remote start though, that may kill the deal.
