He was just flipping through tv channels without watching anything. I asked him why didn't he read a book and learn something instead of watching the channel lineup. He said, Americans are lazy and don't do shit. I responded: if all Americans were lazy like you, we wouldn't have gone to the moon. We'd all be sucking dicks.

Are you sure you don't mean to say he is making fun of your nationality? Nothing you have said shows him making fun of your ethnicity/race.

If he is in fact making fun of you for for you ethnicity, then I would say it's fair game to make fun of him for being gay. I think the key word here is "fun." Keep it lighthearted and not malicious and I don't foresee any problems (unless he is ultra-sensitive, in which case I'd find a new roommate).

You didn't really clarify what sort of stuff he was saying and/or explain why that would be offensive but now it makes a lot more sense.
