If you had $500, what's the best mobo/cpu/memory combo for performance?

Okay I'll do that, but wait... I'm having doubts, it's worth it more to go the Intel track than the AMD track, right?

Haha well I dont want an AMD vs Intel argument. Lets just say that overall, AMD is better value, Intel is better performance right now. But personally I think its a wise decision to go with Intel and get the 800 Mhz FSB. What is it, an extra $100 or so? I think its definitly worth it.

Well, someone had me look at it this way. The Intel track is 25% more expensive than the AMD track. Is it going to offer 25% more performance?

Not quite. But it would be significantly more future proof and significantly faster. But if you're low on cash, AMD is definitly a great value. But I personally think you'd earn that $100 back and then some over time with the Intel setup.
