If you had $300 dollars for a gaming VC right now...

Being my first post I want to say what a good forum you guys run here, definitely the spot for high end info.

Ok, here's the deal, I have a $300 budget for a VC for the gaming rig I'm putting together. Can't spend more cuz I need to buy everything else too. I've been reading and reading about this card and that, but can't make a difinitive decision. Almost all of the cards in this price range have different amounts of clock speed, pipelines, and memory which make for a ton of comparisons and a huge headache!

So... if you:

1) had $300 dollars burning a hole in your pocket,
2) needed an AGP card,
3) weren't partial to ATI or nvidia,
4) only used your comp's full potential for gaming,
5) had a 4 year old Dell P780 Trinitron CRT monitor,
6) played FPS's and MMORPG's, and
7) needed to get it before your wife changed her mind,

Which Video Card would you get???

6800NU, which you MAY be able to get at outpost.com if they have them in stock for $249. CompUSSR will also have some PNY 6800NUs for sale for $200 on black friday, if there was a possibility you could snag one. You may be able to unlock the masked pipelines on the card and further increase your performance.

well, sounds like the consensus is the 6800NU. I read that unlocking the the four pipes only works on some cards, sometimes the pipelines are defective.

Do you guys know what the chances are of getting a 6800NU that can open up to 16 pipes and run with no problems?

are we talking: almost every card can upgrade, 50-50, or you got to be pretty lucky to get a card that will?

You can probably open them on any 6800nu. Whether the 4 awakened pipes work or not is a different story. So 50/50 is the best I can tell you.

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. I'll get the 6800nu and cross my fingers on the extra 4 pipes working.

Oh and tfcmasta97 I'll think about that hundred dollars...
