If you had $170 in Sony points, what would you do with them?

I'm in the mood to buy myself a toy, or possibly make some money, but I'm trying to curb my spending. So, my 17,000+ Sony points are going to get used if I can think of something good to do with them.

Things I've thought of so far:

1) I could use a new digicam, the Sony DSC-P51 is $250 at Dell, 10% off = $225 - $170 = $55 out of pocket.
2) I could buy something and sell it (maybe the camera?), then use the cash to pay off some of my CC debt.
3) Sell my 27" Wega + stand + buy & sell something with the Sony points, buy a new TV... This looks interesting, or something like it...

If I buy something to sell, what would give me the highest return (percentage) of my points?

Any other fun things I'm missing?

Two ways:

1) Order something directly from them, at MSRP. Pay directly with your points.
2) Pay for something via the card, then submit an online form for a refund.

Can't you get a good discount on a Sony TV with your points?


Of course, you would need to buy a really high-end TV to use up those points.... Their 32 inch flat panel plasma TV looks nice!

The discount would be $170.

The Samsung I linked to is about the limit of my price range at this point, with my current Wega + stand + $170 I'd be looking at around $650-700 or so, I'm willing to spend $2-300 to get a widescreen HDTV.

I'm not interested in anything that isn't 16:9 HDTV, & all the Wegas that fit that category are more than I can spend right now.

I think that would be good... you're not going to miss what you don't have yet.. (digi cam/new TV).. but more importantly, you wont miss that CC debt!

Well, Sony makes just about every electronics item on the market so you've pretty much got unlimited choices.

I'd like a laptop, but Vaios are a touch over $170. What I personally would get is a receiver, but I think I remember you saying you had a nice Outlaw. Maybe an MP3/CD player? Car audio stuff?

I dunno, too many choices.

I don't have a receiver, but at this point I have no audio equipment other than my Wega's built in audio.

For now I'm happy with that, though, I don't have sufficient space in my apt to put an audio system but I love high quality video.



And yes, Sony does have damn near everything. I'm not too much into smaller gadgets though, I'd prefer an HDTV over an array of things which will end up collecting dust in short order.

I guess I am on crack about the Outlaw thing. Yeah, a TV gets a lot of use. At the rate you keep upgrading, though, you'll have a 50" plasma display by the end of 2004.

You can use those for frequent flyer miles. For me, since I have a frequent flyer account with Delta, every $2k in balance translates over to 1000 miles. I have the blue so I pay no annual fee, its great.

i have "some" sony points as well -> $300+ worth.
yup, that's 30,000+ points.

i've beening thinking about picking up some electronics from my sony.
you get extra savings by collecting "my sony points" (nope, it's not the same as "sony points").
the latest model of 20" wega is only $300, cheapest I've seen anywhere, and no shipping.
however, i'm still waiting for answer either or not i can get credit (using "sony points") for it.

$200 cheaper than the price tag at BB.
after your $170 saving, it's almost the same price as the samsung.
I guess the only drawback is that you'll get another, oh well let's say, 3-5k sony points depends on their current promotion.
