If you go over your credit card limit

i was under the impression that a credit limit was an actual limit, i.e. if you go over it, the transaction just won't go through.

A large transaction would probably be blocked, but if it just puts you a wee bit over they are happy to oblige and then apply the overlimit fee.

It depends on what it is. If you were going to buy a CD at Best Buy or wherever, it would reject the card; however, interest and automatic billing(to name a couple) will put you over your limit.

That depends on the company. Certain companies won't let through the smallest amount(<$5) and others will let through fairly large amounts, but then hit you with a big finance charge.

I went over by a less than a few dollars. The card was rejected when I wanted to use it to buy clothes. It's a credit card conspiracy! I paid off my balance, but the credit card company still said I had a balance of $48.00 when it should have went back to $200.00. The balance is still $0.00 and I've paid them everything I owed via Internet. Need to give them a call.

Learn how to keep better track of your finances or do what I do, get 15 credit cards 🙂

If it's only 1 or 2 violations it won't ruin your credit, just don't let it happen again.

do you really have 15 credit cards? What's your credit score like?
I was always wondering whether having too many credit cards can lower the credit score.

No I don't have 15, it's fewer than that and my credit score sucks (634).
