If you get injured in the war....

I've been noticing a lot of these veterans going on tv and talking about iraq, probably for a political statement or something, I dunno seems kinda redundant. Anyways I was wondering, if you're injured in the war and you get a purple heart and all and say you lose one eye, are you allowed to go back and fight?

To be honest, if I got injured in a war, I'd let my self heal and then go back in and 'finish the job' so to speak. At least that way I have a higher chance of being 'useful', anyone feel this way?

Are you allowed to 'help' in any sort of way? Seems like it'd be better to put my injured self on the front line then to put some other healthy soldier etc...

I think as long as you can pass the physical requirements for combat, they'll let you go back. I read an article about a guy who lost his foot. He got a prosthetic, rehabbed, and went back to active duty.

This is a legitimate question.

Now you appear delusional, otherwise you would already be out there.

I am not saying you should go or that you are not man enough because you have not gone. It just seems weird to be making a decision that depends on a decision that has not been made.

It depends on the injury. You would at least get a break from your combat duties until you've healed up. And, depending on your injury, you could be reclassed to a different job to finish up your contract.

Trust me, it will be made.

First thing I need to do is get a decent college degree and then waste it when I come home in a body bag. 🙂

been there, talked to some Iraqi veterans and the necessity to do more , go back, and try and make a difference never goes away. Been home for two months now, and i am dying to go back and go on another tour. As F$%#ed up as it is, alot of the guys i served with want to go back. When i was over there i was in the most dangerous city in the world Fallujah and Ramadi, and for the adrenaline rush, the fact that we caught/killed people that hate the U.S. was satisfaction more than anything else. I wasnt injured, shot, or disabled in any way luckily, being in the infantry in the Marine Corps its hard to leave there without problems, and honestly my only problem now is mental in the fact that i want to go there and do more. Its F$%#ed up to think that i actually miss it. But to answer your question if someone gets shot or F#$%ed up, they wont be able to go back as an infantryman or any job besides something back in the rear, like admin, or something that has nothing to do with combat.

I forgot who said it, but I think it was along the lines of "it is good thing war is so horrible lest we grow fond of it."

When it comes to the "rush and glory" of battle, truer words were never said about war.

Then there was General John Bell Hood of the Confederacy (American Civil War). He first lost an arm, went back to war, lost a leg, went back to war. Early in the war he was a very effective general, at the end of the war and after his injuries his effectiveness dropped significantly. Probably due the laudanum (opium) he used to tolerate the undoubtly incessent pain.

your own early death is nothing to smile about as you will be putting yourself in danger, a place where death is everywhere.

You read a nice little urban legend.
If you lose your FOOT, there is no way in hell you can stay on Active Duty or even inactive reserve in the Army.
There are some very minor afflictions you can have that let you stay in but you wont be cleared for combat.

Wrong. Seach for active duty amputee. There are many who do remain on active duty and some who even have kept their primary MOS in combat arms. Some have even deployed with their units.

I wouldn't trust you with a gun.

Now that you mention it, if I was given the opportunity, maybe I'd shoot you in the foot, it'd be funny to see you squirm...

Vote for ban.
