If you don't overclock should you still need to run tests?

Well, if you've just put together the new build you bought and you don't plan to overclock, should it be necessary to run those stability tests such as Prime95? Possibly just in case something wrong with your memory insertion or something? I'm asking this for a brand new put together computer...never turned on, so I wouldn't know if it's stable already or not. Thanks in advance.

Battlefield 2 is the best stress test out there. If you can play the game without bluescreening your computer is stable.

Sounds like a great idea and certainly couldn't hurt. And running memtest can check the integrity of your new memory so it could be rma'd if there are any obvious issues.

Pfff it's not necesary when not overclocking, unless you like running the PC overnight for several nights just to be sure. If a stick of ram is blatantly failing you're not going to be able to post at all.

It is recommended to run stability testing on all new pcs, whether they be overclocked or not. The purpose of this is quite simple. Regardless of hardware being at stock or not, there can be anomalies that cause the hardware to have errors. If you have faulty ram, it may not be too apparent at first. Your pc could just randomly crash once in a while. Your processor's heatsink may not be cooling properly. The possibilities are numerous. Many things can go wrong with a new build, so always test for stability.
