If you don't know who to vote for...

I usually vote liberal. In 2000 I voted for Gore, and in 2004 I voted for Kerry. But as much as I like Obama, I do not like some of his strong opinions on things - they are way too much for me to personally handle. And I do consider myself liberal.

I like some of McCain's policies, and I think some of his plans (health care, etc.) COULD work and aren't complete failures like many people think, but they don't really excite me. Obama's plans make just as much sense, so it's hard for me to pick based on that. But McCain is right-winged, and traditionally I've stayed away from that because of my strong feelings towards things like the Environment, Gay Rights, and a bunch of other things.

So I'm stuck. I'm against a lot of Obama's feelings, but I'm also against a lot of McCain's. Nader, who's running Independently, doesn't really fit my bill either. The Green party candidate (her name is slipping my mind) is okay, but some of her policies on issues are similar to the one's I don't like about Obama.

So if I truly don't know who to vote for --- if no matter who I vote for, I'm going to be cringing about something in the process --- then what do I do?

You will vote for McCain because you are unconscious of your bigotry and it will get the best of you in the end.

I'm kind of wondering the same thing because I can't make up my mind for Washington governor. I like Rossi but I don't like how his transportation plan just builds more roads. I think I may just skip that part of the ballot, maybe you should do the same.

Explain

Obama is a rorschach test.... not voting for Him means that you must be a racist, because that is the only reason anyone would stand against The Wave, even if you're too scared inside to admit it.

Vote.

And one way or the other you can rest easy knowing you canceled out one dumb-ass vote - especially if you vote for Obama - because the failure of the last 8 Republican years must not be rewarded.

You know they want to drag you behind a truck, right?

I was doing my moonbeam impersonation there; I know it's a pale comparison.

Matt, I plan to vote but not for the President. I could never vote Republican and can't stand Obama. However, there are some important local questions that need to be voted on.

I think you answered your own question
" But McCain is right-winged, and traditionally I've stayed away from that because of my strong feelings towards things like the Environment, Gay Rights, and a bunch of other things. "
You're talking about your core values here, something that you and Senator Obama have in common, trust your instinct and vote. I'd rather you vote for Obama, but either way, I believe you should vote.

If you don't really like either candidate, look at the views of the third party candidates that will appear on your ballot. If they are more appealing, vote for one of them. They may not win an electoral vote from your state, but it sends the message that if a major candidate wanted your vote, he should have tried to incorporate the third party views into his own.

I'd also be interested in hearing about these issues that are conflicting you, because I can't imagine what they are.

Also, do you live in a swing state?

Right. I think that's what I'm going to do, too.

Moonbeam has learned well from the Republicans he fears and hates. When anyone refuses to fall in line, simply call them unpatriotic, or in this case, a bigot, or whatever. It matters not what you call them, as long as you demonize them. There is no room for merited dissent. The enemy must be destroyed to discourage others from getting out of line.

Did you not read his OP?

yes i did, if the words sarah palin doesn't scare independent voters away from mccain then they might as well start chanting KILL HIM. mccain himself isn't that bad but he a totally piss poor and dishonorable campaign. how much more clear does it need to be that he didnt put his "country first" when he picked palin??

Find one place where I indicate that is my opinion, please.

Try Palin instead. It was very pale in my opinion.

My my, You sure get upset when you think I'm out of line. Unfortunately I'm not very intimidated.
