Lulz.

If I had to repopulate the world as a result of humanity's stupidity... well, I'd have made sure to have launched in the Ark spaceship in cryo-sleep before the catastrophe ;)

I thought about this some more over breakfast...

1) Have to revise my post about "college grads = education." Nononono. Students would have too much book knowledge and not enough practical experience - you'd need lots of working class folks who have actual experience doing useful things.

2) Several people have questioned the lack of medicine, especially mortality rates of infants and mothers. Think harder - what would happen if you took our standards of every-day sanitation back to the Dark Ages? Death and disease would not be a big deal. You take it for granted what a difference washing your hands makes.

3) Food - Where are people getting the idea what 100% of us would need to farm all day? Life hasn't worked that way in 5000 years.

I'd create a bunch of clones of you and call them Oompa Loompas. I don't think that name has been taken yet.

I would have numerous women and choose to not repopulate the Earth. I have no problems with humanity becoming extinct. I would just give them some spa "facials" and lots of "pearl necklaces" to show my affection.

Everyone dies when the first winter hits. A few hundreds do not provide enough gene diversity anyway.

My greatest memory of a topic on this discussion is in the movie Dr. Strangelove. Dr. Strangelove (Peter Sellers) explains to the General (George C. Scott) and the President (Peter Sellers) about his plan to repopulate the earth after nuclear war.

He explains that the ratio of women to men would be 10 to 1. Women would be chosen for their desireability because their task would be breeding. Men would have to do prodigious service inseminating the women in order to produce many offspring. The idea of monogomy would be a thing of the past.

It's George C. Scott's appearance during this lecture that cracks me up.

It's happened before.

On the other hand, in 2000, a Molecular Biology and Evolution paper suggested a transplanting model or a 'long bottleneck' to account for the limited genetic variation, rather than a catastrophic environmental change.[7] This would be consistent with suggestions that in sub-Saharan Africa numbers could have dropped at times as low as 2,000, for perhaps as long as 100,000 years, before numbers began to expand again in the Late Stone Age[8]

And the cheetah population was once down to fewer than seven.

The only reason they're doing so poorly today is because of habitat pressure from humans. So it is possible to recover a population with very few individuals.
