if you could time travel backwards or forwards, which direction would you go?

Forward. I've seen Futurama so I know all about the consequences of going back in time. I don't care how hot my grandma was, that's just something I don't need to experience.

If I went forward, I would be totally out of my element, uneducated compared to the modern people, and unable to make a good life for myself. I feel like I'd have a better chance going backwards in time.

that's true, though you might make quite a lot of money and fame (if they have reality shows in the future)

Then I'd go backwards, and write things like Nostradamus. Only I'd be wrong a lot, because I just didn't care that much about history classes.

Bah! Why are so many geeks conservative at heart? Where's the wonder, the desire to see new things, to boldly go where no one from your time has gone before?
 
Most likely, I'd want to go forward. However, there is a certain appeal to going back to poorly documented civilizations, early Mesa-America, early dynastic Egypt, Indus Valley, etc. Perhaps learn the true origin behind Atlantis, or confirm the validity of the Ancient Alien theorists.

You'll never know if you don't go. 'Sall right, most folks are stay at home bodies if given a choice. I know what's happened in the past, I want to experience something new. I'm a Chef and I'm willing to bet people still eat in the future.

I am conservative when it comes to making decisions about my own life. Going to the future does sound exciting, but I see there being a very high probability of it ending poorly.

I don't want a long and "safe" life, I want a long and amazing life and if, my risk of going out in a blaze of glory is higher with the latter, so be it.
