If you could only buy one, which would it be: Half-Life 2 or Doom 3

HL2. I want something not only with good frag potential, but a bitchin' story. Something tells me that HL will provide a far better one than Doom 3.

No, those were just plain Athlons, IIRC athlon 4 was a mobile chip, which clearly isn't what you have.

but...im more of an adventure game fan at heart.
doom for loyalty's sake.

What comes after Doom 3 and HL2 ?

I'm just wondering if these titles, and other titles that will use the same engines, will be superceded anytime soon ?

In terms of hardware required, is what I'm thinking about. I'm thinking we are reaching a point where there isn't going to be much point in having a system faster than what is available right now, at least for a long time.

I love how people pretend they know exactly what the final version of Doom 3 will be like. They somehow know exactly how the game "feels", even long before it's released. They know how the levels will play, and they know how the monsters will act. It's like they've already played through the whole game, except it's not out yet. That said, I would choose HL2, mostly because of the online potential. Is far as I know, Doom 3 single player could be a lot more fun than HL2. HL single player wasn't all that great if you ask me, but the success of online mods has artificially risen the single player game to some Godlike level. It was good, but it wasn't nearly as good as people pretend it was.

I guess I'm in the minority of people looking forward to Doom3. The most fun I've ever had online was made possibly by Id. My hope is that at any point they could reinvent that fun once again.

But of course, I am going to be buying both games and also many more that will be coming out at that time.

Hmmm, i voted for Doom 3. I never got into HL or CS, and I think this game is going to be way over-hyped for when it first comes out. Aside from that, Doom 3 may be as well but I think with not to many people being all that excited to get it, they may have something different to offer us than other games that may spark interest soon after its released.
