Give me great weather and I'm happy.

My life interests depend on the weather. I do rough it for the cold winters and muggy summers around here, but it would be nicer to enjoy the outdoors more.

Born and raised in NYC, would love to live in a nicer climate.

I'm thinking one of the shores of Ireland or Britain. I love the rich culture in those countries and they have beautiful coastlines with seasonal changes.

The problem with tropical paradise locations is they also have tropical weather, and with global warming it will only get worse. Not sure living on a crystal clear beachfront would be worth waiting for a category 4 hurricane to nail me once every other year.

I think often about moving to Hamilton New Zealand.

HAmilton? That's a bit weird. I've never heard of anyone wanting to move to Hamilton. That's about as far from the beach as you can get in NZ, foggy, rainy, cold, flat and boring.

Assuming you get to live upper-middle class in the location:

First choice would be Seattle. Love the city itself, the surrounding area, lots to do both urban and natural.

Second would be Oahu. Wife's family is all there. Big city plus natural beauty all nearby. Can't say living on an island wouldn't have its share of issues but I'd be willing to give it a go. Always loved visiting it.

Third would be San Fran or San Diego. San Diego based solely on reputation and I really liked San Fran when I went recently.

If I could pick some place temporarily I would love to do 2-3 years in Tokyo, London and/or NYC but wouldn't want to live in any of them permanently.

Maui or Santa Barbara. I love where I am, but the weather is still a little too grey and wet in the winter for my tastes. But I will not retire to the US since the health care would be too expensive to consider.

Touch choice between Italy, southern France, and the central coast area of California, but if push came to shove, Italy.

Oregon is sort of the WORST of all (American) worlds:

a) around 1/3 of all the human bodies (by the millions) are New York & Texas people who couldn't get along with others at home (i.e., the assholes) so they went to pretty green Oregon seeking new fertile ground .

b) plus the Swedish weather. At least in Washington the snow precipitates that water outta the sky, but in Oregon, those friggin MILLIONS of Texans have it gray over their heads lotta time!

Go home to yer friggin "God's country" PLEASE!!!
Native pure-land Oregonians DON'T LIKE ALL YOU NEW YORKERS & TEXANS, PLEASE GO AWAY!!!

Every single place in the US I have ever been to with the except of Virginia Beach, VA has had this exact same attitude with some group of people. There is always some outsider group ruining how it used to be. The way you remember it being wouldn't have stayed the same even if there wasn't a flood of people coming in. Really if people are coming in that means it is doing well and that's far preferable for any location to the alternative of being like Detroit with people leaving in droves. Only reason VB wasn't like that was because it is a Navy town, nearly everyone is a transient.

Native pure-land Oregonians ... PLEASE GO AWAY!!!

I have little patience for holier-than-thou "natives" no matter which state they claim as their origin.

I suggest we need a federal law that allows anyone to rip those "native" bumper stickers off any car that is licensed in a different (i.e. non-"native") state. :p
