I'd go back to about 2000 or so. Spend time with my dad. I'd give everything in the world just to get to sit down and talk to him again. Just to let him know how everything in my life turned out.

You know, my father is 62 right now. Im 23, and he doesn't know anything about me. We've never had a father-son bonding moment or any intimate conversation about anything other than negative issues. All we ever had was a relationship that didn't go past the father-son label. So when I hear things like what you just said, it really makes me sad because I know I'll be feeling that one day, willing to trade everything for five more minutes to try to connect with that man.

Tough call. Might go back to about 10-15kbce, just to see what was actually around then. Then again, hard to turn down a chance to co-exist with Jesus just so I could give everyone the real story first hand. If I felt selfish I could go back to about 1976-1980 to give my younger self a list of things to do and not do. Just thought of another: 50bce so I could find a way to save all the works in the Library of Alexandria before they all get destroyed.
Of course, there are some caveats. Can I take anything back with me, can I bring anything forward with me, will I be immune to diseases of the time/place, will I innately be able to communicate across language barriers, is this a 'can affect history' or 'can't affect history' timeline, etc.

QFT. My father was little more to me than a sperm donator and a jailbird. My mother knows how to pick 'em - slightly retarded, just like herself. You're very lucky and you take it for granted.

23 years and you don't think I've tried and struggled with this. A few years ago, I gave up. I don't know why it didnt work. Thats not the point. I wasn't trying to sound like a sympathy-whore or anything. I was just saying that even though I'm not in that situation now, and even though his and my situations are different (he sounds like he had a good relationship with his father), I can understand how he feels.

It would be like Groundhog Day, except for a whole year.
Think about it... within a dozen iterations or so, you could probably figure out how to be in the right place at the right time to end up having an intimate evening with Jessica Alba or whatever floats your boat.
