If you could *fix* one car what would it be?

If you could fix any one car that bombed on the market place what would it be? I'm thinking the Fiero. If it had been done right the first time, they may still be making a derivative of it today. Think about it, a Fiero with a fire-breathing LNF ecotec and modern looks 🙂
 
The Fiero was done right, the last year. Updated suspension and all. If it had lasted a couple more years and got a engine update it be even better.

That's what i meant by the first time, it ended up good, but if it had started that way think of where it would be now.

There were only two gens IIRC, the '84-'87, and the '88. Incredible to me that they cancelled it after doing the expensive and successful redesign.

I actually test drove on when they first came out. I wanted one so bad...never got one though. It was a cool little car IMO.

I worked for GM during the Fiero years. The problem was that Chevy never allowed the Fiero to even think of competing with the Corvette, in any way. They were glad to see it go.

At the proving grounds, we had Fieros that could lift the front ends off the ground - think V6 turbo.

GM also killed the Fiero by releasing it prematurely without sound engineering. The 2.5L had a cracked block problem, and there were engine fires. The 84 Fiero was a disaster that was never recovered from, regardless of how great the '88 was.

Ah yes, didn't think about that, but the 1988 Corvette was not a very great vehicle. Shoddy interior and assembly, and utterly outclassed by the 300ZX and Supra Turbos. C4 Vettes as a whole were pretty rough until the later years and of course the ZR1, but the platform was a bit unstable compared to the greatness we have come to know from C5 and C6.

I always wanted a Fiero from growing up seeing them, by the time I was able to drive in '93, I went to test drive an '88, and remember the tremendous disappointment of not being able to fit in it successfully.
 
I wish companies like Packard and Hudson had made it through the post War Era. They would have been making some cool cars today.

The NSX and not this new FR POS.

The original one should have be redesigned, the body refreshed, the engine modernized and the marketing team completely revamped. That is the car Ayrton Senna built, none of that Honda engineer from scratch bs new NSX will ever match up to it.

The name should be retired as not to be shamed by the farce that will be the new one or improved upon to keep up with the times.

yeah I had an 88 fiero in highschool loved that car great handeling power left some to be desired but was a fun car. the 89 fiero that never was was a pretty sharp looking car unfortionally gm thought it would canabalize too many firebird sales 🙁

Not that they were anything more than shitboxes when new, but if Chrysler's K-cars from the 80's have proved to be capable of traveling more than 75,000 miles, I expect that company would have a drastically different reputation for reliability today. They sold a buttload of those cars and they all dropped dead a couple years later. But if those buttload of cars had actually proved to be reliable, it would have made the company far stronger.
