anybody see the movie "Virus"?

the entity on the ship proceeds to explain how man kind is a virus

both humans and viruses don't adapt to the surroundings they change their suroundings to suit themselves

humans and viruses also procreate as much as possible, using up and destroying resources in one area, only to move onto another...

just something i thought i'd add

SHENS. come on.

If given the chance to save this world from humans, I would. I would have my doubts, of course. But in the end it would be the right thing to do. Maybe I am just evil.
dude are you saving it for the animals? for nature? come on yo. we need to enjoy this biatch.

Honestly, I am a hypocrite. I hate what we do to this planet. To the animals, the trees, the world itself. To the millions of animals we have bred to be slaughtered for food, to the millions of trees we cut down for...for whatever we want.
We run this planet. We are the most intelligent beings on this planet. And with that intelligence comes compassion for those who cannot help themselves. I stand by and watch it happen because I don't believe I can make a difference. But if given the chance, I would.
well, hmm. you just have to enjoy the time we have been given. will we end the world by making it uninhabitable? will we destroy it through war? time will tell. all we can do in the meantime is be thankful we are sitting here posting. seriously - look at past generations that were drafted to fight in wars. look at the current crop in Iraq. those guys - maybe after all they have seen, they would end it - and maybe they are right, having seen evil, death and other things our eyes will likely never see. we have it made. well, i do anyway. not sure about anyone else. perhaps a good portion of us are too disconnected from reality. perhaps if everything was transparent, we would choose to end everything. for now i am going to stay in my happy little drama-free life... i've seen enough crap to know that you have to appreciate the good times while you can.

there are just as many good things as bad.

but im coming up with a blank as to how humanity has attempted to benefit something other than itself...

how is this unnatural or different from any other species?

it just seems like we bend things the way we want them to like w/ nature and stuff w/o thinking about the other things in this world...not saying nature doesn't do the same, its jsut that we have such greater impacts.

we create massive amounts of pollution that kills so much in the world and we just brush it off onto someone else to get rid of it...

technology will catch up and solve that problem.

33% say they'd push the button? If you really want to end humanity, off yourselves right this instant and clear the planet of roughly 2 billion people. That'd be a good start.

Nature and life will survive the pollution we humans make. It is a matter of if humans will survive. Anyways, it won't matter in the long run if all the planets and stars are truly speeding up away from each other at an enormous rate. Life won't survive in the extreme long run unless there is some greater purpose to it all. Plus, there would be no point.

I voted no. We are really insignificant to the world. We are doing a fine job of killing ourselves off slowly by polluting our own environment. We will do ourselves in but the world will heal and just go on without us after we are gone. Nature always rights itself. Whatever or whoever comes after us that is intelligent enough to screw itself up all over again will do so and the cycle will go on. No point in pushing the button really. I kinda enjoy the time I have here. I consider it a gift that I was here to behold and marvel at the incredible wonder that is our world and our universe. We'll all be gone in the blink of an eye as far as the Earth is concerned.

Until after 30 billion years when life is unsustainable anywhere.

Does our happiness justify what we are? And we are what we do. Can we change?
Yes. Will we change? No. Why? Because we don't have to. We are comfortable turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to things that don't affect our day-to-day lives. We are a selfish species. Perhaps ending humanity would not be so much killing humanity, but evening the odds? Afterall humanity is defined in way by our supremecy. I wonder what would happen if we no longer reigned supreme? If we didn't take life for granted.

As possessor of the Great Button of Death, I would declare myself Supreme Emperor of the Earth and demand tribute from the multitudes of lowly commoners. Then I would pick up one of those sweet FX-57s and a 7800GTX.

I would want the button, as long as I had a "demo" button that I could push to provide an example on some hapless unsuspecting planet to provide a demonstration to others that decide to get out of line. Then of course I wouldn't need THE button, but it would still provide the same effect and be funny to watch a planet poof.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, the goal of nature is to wrap the world in plastic, so in the next ice age we won't get freezer burn? I mean, we are natural, so shouldn't anything we do also be natural and in line with the natural order of the world?
I mean, why are we diffrent then the beaver that creates dams and changes the ecosystem around the river?

I wouldn't do it. Personally I think it's gonna happen eventually anyhow. As smart as humans are, it'll be a religious conflict that ends 99% of us.

Unfortunately, yes.

I think that Agent Smith did that in the matrix also, I liked his character better.

Oh, you mean like the beaver, or spider.

humans and viruses also procreate as much as possible,

All animals do this, some are just better at it then others. Look at what happens anytime a species ends up somewhere where it has almost no natural predators.

using up and destroying resources in one area, only to move onto another...

Oh, like the locust, birds, buffalo, or a school of fish?

just something i thought i'd add

Me too.

I would push the button. Of course, I would like it if eradication was an extremely painful process for everyone. If you're gonna go out, might as well cause the most amount of suffering possible, and then some more. And then hope they all go to hell forever.

Not for a femto second. Our sheer amazingness (buildings, medicines, space probes) far outweighs any small negatives.

Humans, in short, rock. Why would I kill something so awesome?
