give all of NOVA to Maryland or make it "East Virginia" or "North Virginia" and then possibly reclaim West Virginia.
get rid of property taxes on vehicles
have the Army/Navy/Air Force reduce the off-base housing allowance. that's driven up the price of rental units into the crazy-zone.
aside from that, i really like southern VA. i wouldn't mine less humidity, but that's the price for living on the east coast.

First...if they ONLY took "crappy jobs that no one else wanted," they'd probably be less disliked...and there'd be fewer of them. As it is, they're in many jobs that "normal" people would like to have...construction is full of them...and those are jobs that pay (non-union-$15+ Union-$24+) and it's dammed easy to make a good living working construction. (plus they generally do poor quality work)
Next...since we end up supporting them through increased government services, welfare, food stamps, kids in schools, increased police activity, etc., PLUS higher health care costs because they use hospital emergency rooms...then don't pay, we already are paying more...higher taxes and higher health care.
"Pay me now, or pay me later."
Most of the "jobs that no one wants" are jobs that no one wants to do for the shitty sub-standard wages that the Mexicans will accept...and are ideal jobs for "workfare."

I got lots of compliments over the weekend for wearing my "Nevada: Don't care how you did it in California" t-shirt.
Nevada: This state needs better restaurants, especially sandwiches. Subway, Quiznos, and POS (piece of shit/Port of Subs) are horrible, as is Jimmy Johns. And how can a desert state have more sushi per capita than anywhere else???

You're a reno-ite, right? They just opened a Capriotti's up here (Greg and McCarran). Yeah, it's a Vegas import, but they make a good sandwich.
Edit: and if you think we don't have good restaurants, you're eating in all the wrong places. Reno has more good restaurants than a city it's size has any right to.
