i.e. an Ph.D in mathematics & be at/near top of my respective field.

What does the degree have to do with anything at all? I'd rather be like Bill Gates- you guys can have your penis-measuring contests and compare degrees... I'll be content knowing that my abilities have allowed me to assume the position of being the richest man in the world, having outcompeted all others.

There are results, and then there are paper certs.

I like my current IQ, whatever it is. Good enough for me :)

Now, if it were I could have a choice in memory, well I'd want a ton better, mine sucks :p

Ah, but it's not asking that. It says, "If the rooster laid an egg..." Since that is not possible as we know it, the question must be purely hypothetical. :p

The egg would roll down the roof. :p

I believe true genius verges often on instability/insanity. I have had the combined fortune and misfortune of knowing a number of truly gifted genius' who either lacked the skills to interact with 'normal' society or burned out trying to do so. It is not that genius is so rare, it is that genius combined with the desire/ability to communicate and aid the plodding masses they are surrounded with is almost non-existent.
Or else some just don't see the point of certain social acts.
For instance, I don't really care for small talk. It seems like a pointless time waster, an exercise for the jaw, as detailed by Ford Prefect in Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy - that humans talk so much to prevent either jaw failure, or as he later thought, some kind of mental seizure.
So many of the niceties seem to be in place as a simple way of indicating to other people, "I don't loathe your very existence, in fact, I'll actually tolerate it." It would be nice if the pleasantries could be simply assumed to be present already. For example, holding a door open for someone. "Thank you" and the small level of gratitude should simply be assumed to be present. If not, well, who cares, it's not like holding a door is an energy-intensive procedure anyway.

Often times too, I tend to just keep quiet because in order to give what I perceive to be a "proper" response to a given inquiry, it would require more verbage than most people are willing to listen to. So rather than giving a half-assed, lackluster response which may have the unfortunate side effect of being misleading, I'll just kind of try to stay out of such situations entirely.
Concerning that wordiness, I see words as mere approximations of thoughts, like trying to express 32-bit color in only 4 bits. Something gets lost in the translation. To compensate, more words are needed (more pixels, only each one is smaller - dithering, of sorts), or else use more precise words (better compression), which may stray beyond the boundries of either person's vocabulary.

I don't really see why it matters that much when there's such a high chance of being born into <insert third world country here>. If I'm too assume that absolutely nothing would change about myself aside from the higher IQ (and whatever consequences result from it) then I don't see why not to take it.

I must say I'd go with a lower IQ myself ... I think its much easier to be content & happy if you are to dumb to realize what you're missing! :p

If you're so depressed with life to the point that you wouldn't mind being born unable to comprehend your surroundings, then why not take suicide as an option? Not trying to be insulting, but I don't really see the difference. Either way you don't have to think or worry about real life.

I would of course go with the highest IQ possible, whatever the absolute maximum limit was.

That way, I could slack off even more than I do now, and still get the same amount done, or I could work with the same level of effort, and hopefully achieve even more.
Clearly, a Win/Win situation for me.

Um, IQ (essentially) isn't an absolute measure of intelligence. There is no "maximum", per se.

How honorable.

Of course, I suppose we are all entitled to our own fantasies. And this is all conjecture anyway, so there's no use taking exception to something that most likely will not happen.

A much lower IQ so I was not aware of how much I could accomplish and not have to live with that pressure on myself.

I'd want not only a higher IQ, but also a brain that is more prone to try to structure itself logically. I'd like something that makes more efficient use of the volume within the skull. When nature "designs" things, it works backward from how we engineer things. It tries something, and if it works well enough, it keeps it. We like to predict the outcome, and design for that purpose. I would like something like that, something designed logically, purpose-built for receiving, interpreting, storing, and recalling information quickly and effectively. I understand that the hippocampus has some role in long-term memory, so perhaps something with a similar function, but more capable would be a nice addition too
With improved structuring would likely come quicker learning, and better focus - with this improved structuring, there would be less need to control our natural and rather irrational or even random impulses. Without this distraction, that would leave even more resources available to the already enhanced mind.

Yeah, that's what I'd want out of a new brain. Sure, nature's granted us something a bit excessively intelligent for pure survival. But it's only given us a small glimpse of what sentience can really do.

LoL. Are you suggesting that you're higher than 140? Hell, some Nobel physicists were in the 130 range.
Really? Huh.....interesting.
I got into the gifted program in elementary school. I remember a bit about the test - there were some things involving various configurations of shapes, and remembering their colors or arrangement. And I remember that I was asked which continent Chile was on. I thought it was on Asia; I never really had much interest in political geography. Things like elevation maps, I like looking at them; satellite images too. Borders just didn't seem important.
But I think the gifted program's cutoff limit is an IQ of 130. For some reason, the number 136 always stuck in my mind.

I find that stories like this one are inspiring. I just wish we knew more about why some people are so exceptionally quick to learn certain things. Is it hardware, or is it all in the software?

The one I got into during school was 130+ too so I think you are correct in that.

Higher IQ, and superior ability to retain/recall long term concepts.

Why do I need to clarify that? I had a teacher in high school that had an accident in his early teens. Lost all of his memory. And since then, his long term memory wasn't too great. But he could learn things very quickly. Very high IQ. But what's the point if you keep forgetting?

I chose a 140-160 IQ.

Seriously, though... I think that most folks rather be reborn an attractive woman than a smart man if given the chance. Wouldn't be nice to be able to marry a sugar daddy and live the good life without having to work for it?
