I remember as a kid, cop was a "bad word". My mom told me they were "policemen". Times sure have changed.

haha, how did your mom explain the show Cops?
people on this forum have a huge hatred for the police and call them much worse than cops.

Why do you do a job where people hate you so much, you get suckered out of overtime pay, and get paid almost nothing? Is being able to break red lights, carry a gun and occasionally bash someones skull in really worth it?

Yes.

/not a cop
//thinking about joining the force

haha, no not really a reason at all, i can carry w/o being a cop anyways

sorry if the humor was lost in translation

if i have a vanity plate "ih8pigs", would you stomp my guts out or leave me alone?

i could be muslim and just voicing my dislike for pork.

in all honesty i love pork and i've never had a problem with cops.

Do cops seriously discriminate based on age and type of car? I drive a black BMW 540i 6 spd and every time I drive passed a cop they are always looking at me with that "You might be doing something wrong" type look. Oh I'm 17 by the way.

I drive a lot of cars teens my age would dream about driving through my work. I work for a very wealthy family and I move their cars between their multiple houses whenever they need it done. So I get to drive across town in shinny Jaguar XK, XJ8, Mazda RX8, Lexus, etc. Cops love to follow me (I'm assuming they are running the plates to make sure they aren't stolen). But it is a very unnerving feeling, I'm not doing anything wrong but if they do pull me over the car is not registered in my name and it would be a huge hassle.

Most teens my age are awful drivers... absolutely terrible, just drive past your local high school and take a look at what happens when everyone is heading home or to lunch. The idiocy is amazing, but one thing is for sure, not all of us are like that.

here are some from the list of questions not to ask a cop:

Did I see you get your a$$ kicked on COPS??

You like familiar...oh yeah, you were on the Village People, weren't you??

Don't you have to be in shape to be a cop?

If the cop asks, "your eyes look red, have you been drinking?", don't ask, "you eyes look glazed, have you been eating donuts?"

Can you hold my beer so I can grab my license?

Mother of God...

What do you mean "IF" I could ask?

I have several friends and several relatives who are policemen. I feel free to ask them any questions I want to ask.

Not really a question for a cop, but more for a highway patrol. If I am in a group of cars speeding down the freeway(say 80 in a 65) where am I safest: at the front, middle, back of the pack? Lets say there are 5 cars.

If I'm in a new city, I find the fattest cop I can, and ask the best place to eat. I've never had one get offended, and I've eaten at some pretty nice places.

A friend of mine is a cop, and he writes a blog that's very entertaining... you'd be surprised what he sees on a daily basis.

He's thinking about writing a book, but he's curious what would interest people. So, understanding that A) I'm going to get about 99% smarta$$ answers, and B) this might not be his #1 target market, I'm curious to know what you all would want to know from a cop if you could ask any questions you had.

I'll also note that his specialties are recognizing DWIs, and he's also a DRE (Drug Recognition Expert), so there will be a chapter or two on how people are tested for drugs or alcohol, and about the myths associated with the tests (you can't put a penny in your mouth to fool a breathalyzer, and they don't really care if you can say the alphabet backwards).

Ask away!

Some food for thought:

- How much over the speed limit do you let people go?
- What excuses work with you?
- Do you really let crying women go every time?
- Why do you like donuts so much?
- What gives you the right to ticket me when I pay your salary (this is one that makes cops angry)?

Didn't we just go thru this recently?

Why do you do a job where people hate you so much, you get suckered out of overtime pay, and get paid almost nothing? Is being able to break red lights, carry a gun and occasionally bash someones skull in really worth it?

Because its a calling. I don't see myself doing anything else.

In all honesty, that is the answer you will get from a good majority of police officers. Many of us don't know WHY we got into it, or what exactly attracted us to the profession in the first place. It just happens...and no, we aren't bullies or looking for revenge. I just think alot of people on here get being a bully or getting revenge on bullies confused with the confidence that an officer HAS to present in any situation. It boarders on arrogance, so I see how some people are offended/love to hate, but for the most part, thats really all it is.

Anyway, if someone wants to compile a list of questions and send me a PM, I can answer them in my free time. Been busy as of late.
