If you claim to not read a policy, it doesn't apply?

In a decision dated June 6, U.S. District Court Judge Paul Magnuson ruled that seven consolidated class action lawsuits against Northwest had no merit--in part because the privacy policy posted on the airline's Web site was unenforceable unless plaintiffs claimed to have read it. The plaintiffs had contended that the airline, in giving passenger information to the government in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, violated laws and its own privacy policy.

So if there is a policy, such as a return policy, and I claim to have not read it, even though it is posted, it doesn't apply?

So If I sign up to some form of service and don't read the contract that means later on down the line when I find that my motives have changed I can ignore the contract. Excellent goodbye loans

Contracts and company policies are not the same thing.

"Excellent goodbye loans"

i like this idea, i really would like to not pay back 20K in loans as well

So if I buy something from Circuit City, and then want to return it next day, they can just refuse it saying that I didn't claim to have read the return policy, so it doesn't apply?

It just seems like the judge is basically simplifying his reason for his verdict by pointing out that the policy is read.

It's not math, so just because a->b doesn't mean ~b->~a.
