If you carry your Social Security card in your wallet - why?

What the heck could you possibly need it in your wallet for?

I don't - no need to. My military ID card has my SS #, which is all the verification I need. Plus, the SS card is a flimsy piece of thin paper, and knowing me, I'd probably wash it and have it fall apart.

He's just saying that he doesn't have a card. Hell, my father took my card when my parents were divorced, so I didn't haver one from the time I was 4 years old until I 16 (when I needed it for my first job).

i have it, because for my new job they needed a copy of it...and since i am still in the process of moving, i fear if i might lose it if i try and store it with other papers

Before a few years ago, I didn't. Unfortunately, my identity was stolen a few years ago; now if I get pulled over, the cops are supposed to ask for my DL and SS card. It's a tad inconvenient but hopefully it helps (helped?) catch the person that got my license in the first place.

I don't think you are wrong, since 1995 we gotten them for our children.

Yes, you were. I know one guy who never got one until he was 16. I know one guy who was born at home and didn't even have a birth certificate (or SSN) until he was several years old. Your parents have to sign you up for a SSN, you're not automatically assigned one.

kids get issued social security numbers at birth (or very quickly thereafter). So if its a small kid without a SSN then he is an alien.
