OWC Accelsior 8M2 4TB PCIe RAID Card - 26 GB/s on the cheap

Up to 26,000 MB/s throughput for $1699? We didn't think it possible, yet it is via some OWC know-how with the Accelsior 8M2.

wish we had more then 24x pci-e lanes on a non HEDT.

1. card looks like it requires a full 16x, might even require bifurcation.
2. would mean it would not work on 90% of the boards as you only get 1 full 16x slot, and usually its populated by a GPU.
3. even then, that card looks enterprise based, its OWC so its aimed at apple users, meaning its designed for a mac pro, or a workstation class / HEDT / Expensive as heck class.

So do not expect this card to fit in slot and work magically as intended without extensive research.

As mentioned throughout the review, it's using a PCIe switch (a Broadcom PEX switch), as any 8x M.2 riser card must. That means it doesn't need bifurcation support and will work with any number of PCIe lanes for the uplink to the host system. Since it has a 6-pin PCIe power connector, it probably doesn't need to draw much power from the slot itself, so there should be nothing stopping it from working in an x4 or narrower slot as long as the slot can mechanically accommodate an x16 card.
