If I parked my car on the Moon, some turd-twister would turn up and park within 7 inches of my drivers door.

In driving school, we never really learned forward parking, since the only thing that was tested was reverse parking. Now I am quite good at both types of parking--but I can understand why maybe some people are more comfortable with reverse parking.

Going with the second theme of the thread, I usually parallel park going in front first. It's much easier and quicker, but it does require there to be more space for you to maneuver. If there is enough room, it's quick. If there's not and I have to park there, I'll back in.

On another note, have you ever noticed those jerks who deliberately park across two spots so that no one will park near them? I understand you like your car, and if they're in a huge parking lot a ways away from the entrance I don't care, but one time I was at an ice cream place where the ONLY parking spot was half-filled by some flashy sports car. Obviously trying to keep everyone else out. Of course, I knew exactly how wide my car was, so I pulled in anyway, leaving enough room for the car on my right but only inches between me and the sports car. He had to back out VERY carefully:evil:

niiiiiiiice. i sometimes park next to them in my sh1tty car, just out of spite.

this is exactly why i park at the very end of parking lot where not many others park...only those who care about their cars and have a mutual respect for others' cars.

not really. I park my car pretty far out. I've only once taken up two spots out there, but that was because it was 8:30pm, on a tuesday night at the mall.

but other times I've parked out there, in my single spot.. all by myself. I come back and there's a silverado, an f250, and a blazer surrounding me. There's about 2 dozen more spots around the area they could have parked, but they all are surrounding me. WTF.

sorry man. had to lol at that. that happened to me too. went to Home Depot last night to pick out some paint and as usual I parked far away from the other cars and next to a curb, parking as close to the curb on my left as possible. Come back to see an explorer not only parked next to me, but he was over the line and into my spot?! I mean the next 10 spots to my right were open, and still he had to park right next to me. what a bastard.

but in my initial post, I was talking about at work. Found out that most people who park as close as possible to the building are people who couldnt care less about their or other people's cars. they fling their doors open, try to squeeze their SUVs into a spot they would barely fit in, and dont care about parking within the lines. now in the back, all the cars are nice cars and since there is plenty of space, people leave one parking spot empty between cars.

I can't parallel park, it is impossible for me. Therefore I don't.

Same. I'll back in if it will facilitate loading or unloading the bed/trunk like at apartments or what have you. If the option is available I'll pull through. I hate using the reverse gear even though I'm convinced I'm better at it than the average idiot out there.

I used to work with some soccor mom who drove a Lincoln Behemouth and she tried to reverse park every morning. It would take her five minutes and she always left the car all fscked up in the parking spot.

I used to drive a Jeep Wranger that I abused quite a bit (hey, that's what they're for), so anytime I had to scrunch back into my car because some ass couldn't park, I made it a point to ream their door with mine as hard as I could. To a Jeep, that's nothing... but to a Lexus... well... MWAHAHAHAHA

when i see people park way out in the lot to avoid cars i make it my job to go park right next to them, just to piss them off, i do not hit their car in anyway way i just park close

Anything to make that easier and faster is a good thing.

if there's 1.5 car lengths, you can do it.

But is it parallel parking if you have that much room?
while it's not physically possible with just 1-car length unless you keep worming... you can probably do it with 1.25 car lengths, even. I would still consider that parallel parking... though it may take people longer. Some people are really good - don't ask me... I'd only go head in if there's 1.5 car lengths since it's obviously easier / quicker than backing into it.

I'm a fan of the pull-through method. I'll reverse park if I'm in the mood or its the only way to get into a spot, but I'll pull through 5 spaces farther away if the option is available.

If you can back into a parking space safely, you can surely handle backing out into the parking lot.

I know that's obnoxious, but dammit, I just bought a brand new black Legacy GT - within 48 hours, some idiot managed to ding it with their goddamn door, even though I made sure to park at least 2 spaces away from everyone else. Plenty of spaces everywhere but that chimpanzee just had to park right next to my car and damage it. People just don't respect each other's property anymore. So I can't blame people for taking two spaces.

That's why you carry a permanent marker in your car.

I owned a Tacoma a number of years back and I witnessed some lady fling her door open and ram the side of my truck, even though there was a ton of room between the two cars. I quickly ran out of the restaurant but by time I got out there she had headed somewhere else. My wife and I had to be somewhere so I couldn't wait around to give her a piece of my mind, but my wife had a Sharpie in her purse :D . I left a nice little message on her DOOR (not the window).

B1tch.

If there's enough room it's not called "parallel parking", it's called "pulling up to the curb".
