If I parked my car on the Moon, some turd-twister would turn up and park within 7 inches of my drivers door.

Backing in is safer, but I agree, if you can't do it don't try.
On another note, have you ever noticed those jerks who deliberately park across two spots so that no one will park near them? I understand you like your car, and if they're in a huge parking lot a ways away from the entrance I don't care, but one time I was at an ice cream place where the ONLY parking spot was half-filled by some flashy sports car. Obviously trying to keep everyone else out. Of course, I knew exactly how wide my car was, so I pulled in anyway, leaving enough room for the car on my right but only inches between me and the sports car. He had to back out VERY carefully:evil:

not really. I park my car pretty far out. I've only once taken up two spots out there, but that was because it was 8:30pm, on a tuesday night at the mall.
but other times I've parked out there, in my single spot.. all by myself. I come back and there's a silverado, an f250, and a blazer surrounding me. There's about 2 dozen more spots around the area they could have parked, but they all are surrounding me. WTF.

I saw a girl here on campus that tried for quite a while to parallel park by going forward into the spot....

if there's 1.5 car lengths, you can do it.Originally posted by: Baked
How the F do you parallel park by going in head 1st? HOW!?

I do it all the time. I takes less time than backing in.

sorry man. had to lol at that. that happened to me too. went to Home Depot last night to pick out some paint and as usual I parked far away from the other cars and next to a curb, parking as close to the curb on my left as possible. Come back to see an explorer not only parked next to me, but he was over the line and into my spot?! I mean the next 10 spots to my right were open, and still he had to park right next to me. what a bastard.

reverse park is a term ive never heard before, however there is nothing wrong with parking ass end into the space, it makes pulling out a lot easier
Anything to make that easier and faster is a good thing.
while it's not physically possible with just 1-car length unless you keep worming... you can probably do it with 1.25 car lengths, even. I would still consider that parallel parking... though it may take people longer. Some people are really good - don't ask me... I'd only go head in if there's 1.5 car lengths since it's obviously easier / quicker than backing into it.Originally posted by: Savij

But is it parallel parking if you have that much room?

Same. I'll back in if it will facilitate loading or unloading the bed/trunk like at apartments or what have you. If the option is available I'll pull through. I hate using the reverse gear even though I'm convinced I'm better at it than the average idiot out there.

I know that's obnoxious, but dammit, I just bought a brand new black Legacy GT - within 48 hours, some idiot managed to ding it with their goddamn door, even though I made sure to park at least 2 spaces away from everyone else. Plenty of spaces everywhere but that chimpanzee just had to park right next to my car and damage it. People just don't respect each other's property anymore. So I can't blame people for taking two spaces.Originally posted by: jagec

Going with the second theme of the thread, I usually parallel park going in front first. It's much easier and quicker, but it does require there to be more space for you to maneuver. If there is enough room, it's quick. If there's not and I have to park there, I'll back in.
