Mine arrived today, a saitek cyborg evo. Its totally class! It actually turned me into a pro fighter pilot, i still get shot down but thats a LOT better than taking a nosedive into a mountain due to not being able to fly very well. So if i ever crash, its not my own fault :D So if you suck at flying and dont have a joystick and want to fly, go buy this one cuz its great.

Choppers take a bit of getting used to though.

I was an enraged pilot today. There was this guy that was such a good pilot, he'd rack up like 80 points flying an F-18. Anyways, I don't think he shot me down, but he was really pissing me off because usually I never get dominated in the air unless I'm alone against 2 skilled pilots. I think I practically broke my joystick dogfighting for hours. Then his buddy came and they teamed up on me and I had to kamikaze my MiG into a loaded blackhawk (that's how you take one down when it's full of engineers ;)). Then I went to their airbase as a spec. ops and planted C4 underneath where the plane spawned, and I blew him up 3 times before he got in the air :D

I'm the man at flying the choppers. Desert Combat and BFV honed my chopper skills. Don't cross me when I have the Cobra!

ANyways, I can fly the choppers like a savage with ym mouse, but if I even attempt to fly a jet, yikes.

I'm the opposite. I rarely played Desert Combat and never played BF:V because I got crap framerates no matter what I did, so I suck with choppers. You can't imagine how many times I line up a tank in the cobra and miss with all the rockets. I've gotten good with the TV missiles though.

Anyways, I'm a pro at flying, because throughout my online gaming life I've played 90% flight sims. BF2 is a silly simplified flight model, obviously, but it's fun nonetheless. When I get a plane I will hardly ever die, and I go a lot of games without a single death. It's fun :)

Teach a brotha something about choppers though. I'm dying to get in on the action.

Any advice with the TV missiles? I try to point the crosshairs on the target but while the missile is in the air any slight mouse movement veers the thing way off course!

I am OK at flying a chopper but I will always yield to a better pilot and play gunner. I think my joystick is actually impeding my chopper abilities... I oughta try keyboard + mouse for chopper... do you use the default keys for flying chopper using mouse or how do you set them?

oh weird...it's just the opposite for me with the tv missiles. it barely moves no matter how much I veer my mouse. Maybe it has to do with the mouse sensitivity you have set?

I also use the joystick for flying a chopper. I use the "rudder" buttons on the top to move around. It's easier than the kb + mouse, but I know a lot of people prefer that method. I think it just depends on the player.

Chopper man here. KB&M all the way. Now if only I could find a decent gunner!

That's not the way to do it. Plant C4 on his AND his buddie's plane. Then wait til they have lifted, giving them some hope, and then.. BAM!

He'll never know what hit him.

Me myself are having a bit of problems flying in BF2. It was A LOT easier in Desert Combat. Nevertheless, my spec op skills own..

I play heli's with KB only, and I've gotten pretty good. I'm still better at flying them in DC though, still working on my BF2 flying chops.

Can't fly a plane for crap w/o a joystick though. Saitek Cyborg Evo rocks for that purpose. Otherwise it collects dust... :)

I'm not the best but I can definately rack up the kills with either. I'm better at the helicopters though. But I use a flight stick for both. I can't KB&M pilot worth a damn. I used to use a Sidewinder stick but its yaw control started messing up & now I'm using a Logitech stick. I can't tell you how many smacktards I had to put up with in Desert Combat who couldn't fly a helicopter for sh!t. Bad thing is they were also the ones who always camped the helos too.
So this is my plea to all of you battlefield players out there. Please.... for the sake of our sanity learn to fly OFFLINE

Any tips for setting up to use a mouse to control a helicopter? And how to actually use it? I just slowly flip over. No matter what I do. I would expect to wobble back and forth as I spaz but I can't even get the thing to switch directions. (So if I'm slowing rolling to my right I can't actually make it flip to the left.)

You want to jack up the sensitivity to about 3 for heli and 4 for the jets.

Just fight the choppers movement.

It goes this way you go the other unless you want to go a certain way.

Is it? I have an MS Sidewinder too that's very old, but it's lasted me through 4 flight sims and BF2 and I REALLY beat up on it too. It probably should have broken by now. I've had no problems with it, but I guess I haven't really tried other joysticks. I never feel I'm at a disadvantage since I can shoot everyone down and still bomb with ease..

How is it setup in the controls config file?

I wouldn't recommend using that controller. it wouldn't be much different than using KB@M. I'm using this and it works very well.

Did you guys modify the sensitivity for the chopper or jet? If so, to what?

I do fine with my KB&M. The first day I played BF2, I either couldn't figure out how to get the chopper off the runway or crashed it into something as soon as I did. :p Now I can master choppers, with just a couple of days practicing on my own created server. Jets are way too fast for me though. I don't see how you can even accomplish anything? Nor can I get the timing right to lower to the helipad and get ammo with a jet like I can with a chopper.

It just takes practice with jets. Remember that jets don't have an out-of-boundary area until you get off the entire map. That gives you more time to plan your approach. It's also very helpful to be in a squad where they can direct you where they want you to strike. You can just fly high only looking at the map and then dive down at your targets if you know where they are already.

Now, searching for targets is a different story. It's much harder and very risky since you have to fly low enough to be targeted by stingers and such. Not to mention you get spotted by other planes easier. Either way, unless you happen to be lined up with a target that you're looking for, you're probably not going to get it on that pass because you'll have to adjust too quickly.
