If you became President...

Much the way Mississippi has become the "whipping boy" of the South in the last 50 years, France has become similar within the past 5 years. President Bush stressed the relationship with France at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. With the ingorant use of "Freedom Fries" and harsh words from the neo-cons, it is no surprise that levels of resentment, not only in France, but across the world have grown.

If you were to become President today, would you apologize to France? What would you say to Jacques Chirac?

I don't think a apology is necessary everyone (except the "slower" ones here) in the world knows bush and friends are idiots.

I think the french would be thanking us for ditching the wanna-be hillybilly and his greedy friends. ;)

No apologies, but something along the lines of a "fresh start with the world community"

imho.

I wouldn't apologize, but in my speech, I would mention a "change of culture" that would be occuring.

Would you agree with apoligizing to Iraq (this would be sometime in the future) for absolutely fvcking up the postwar situation without a plan[and this is something we all should be able to agree on regardless of our views of the war...that a piss poor job has been done on almost every aspect since we invaded]?

I think that going from a moron like Bush to a President who would apologize for his would create more cognitive dissonance than the world could handle.

If France is in someways responsible for its own negative image in the world that is their lookout.
The USA is free to have a foreign policy that takes steps to oppose French policy. But can't directly control what France does.

Similarly, if the USA is engaging in policies that offend the world community, France and other nations are free to take whatever foreign policy steps to oppose that policy.

But when the people of the United States really wake up to teh idea that we have placed a real idiot in the White House-----it becomes our responsibility to use various means to oppose that idiot.---and we get one big chance in 11/06 to throw alot of smaller idiots out of office which will take out many underpinning from the larger idiot.

But regardless if France is or is not lead by similar idiots has nothing to do with the USA being lead or not being lead by idiots. But gets real dangerous when both nations are lead by idiots.

Because an incompetent plus an incompetent can often lead to very bloody wars. Even one incompetent is enough.

After the Bush Presidency ends with a wimper or a bang, I am very certain the next president will have to go to the world community and do much fence mending. And perhaps legitimise that fence mending by turning their predecesor to the tender mercies of the Hague--- who are better prepared to judge him.

And we would still have been a British colony if not for them. It appears that YOU and the rest of your ilk (French bashers without a clue as to history) have forgotten.....

What exactly is your point?

As to the OP, nah. No public apology but something along the lines of "we are at the dawn of a new day....blah, blah, blah".
