*If* WMDs were found in Iraq at this late stage in the game...

Since "Bush lied" seems to be the rallying cry, let's imagine for a moment that we all wake up tomorrow to find the mother lode in Iraq. I'm talking the whole enchilada, the nuclear, biological, and chemical.

Of those who oppose the war, how many would have your minds changed by this finding?

Well, it would get rid of the problem of why we went in, but we'd still have an issue with the fact that their plan after the war was "they'll have parades for us!"

Well on this forum it would be decried as an obvious plant by Karl Rove.

It wouldn't matter much.

Your fantasy question reeks of desperation. But you won't see it that way. You must ask yourself why.

we already know the intel was wrong, and probably doctored, so it wouldn't mean much except that bush got lucky.

I'll bite.

Not me. I said from the beginning whether Iraq had WMDs or not was irrelevant. They simply did not pose the level and urgency of threat necessary to justify unprovoked invasion, an act of naked aggression. We had U.N. inspectors who were making steady progress on determining the true state of Iraq's remaining WMD capabilities. There was absolutely no cause for George's mad rush to invade ... except each new inspector report further discredited BushCo's lies.

They already would have buried tons of WMDs to find if they could have gotten away with it. Bush & Co. underestimated the amount of International press coverage of the war in Iraq.

I'm fine with imaginary scenarios, but this particular one is based on an imaginary view of the anti-war (for lack of a better term) crowd. Imagine that the evil genie grants GW his wish and we uncover vast quantities of WMD in Iraq, that does not make the current situation any less of a mess. Yes, Bush would no longer be taking flack on the reason for going to war front...but he'd still be taking plenty of flack over the lack of planning on how to win the peace. THAT is the problem that people seem concerned about now, finding WMDs would not change that, IMHO.

It's a moot point since every square inch of Iraq has been gone over with a fine toothed comb. How many official reports, investigations and commission findings do you need?

I'm sure it would bring some previously die-hards back into the fold, but as they say the Voter has a short memory span. They'd likely not be affected and would see the more recent f**kups as reasons to oppose Bush. Bush's problems extend much further than not finding WMDs.

Smithers: Will that be a check or cash sir?

Mr Burns: No... I think I'd still rather not.

Since the reason why we invaded keeps changing, it would be interesting to see the Bush administration display one more bout of hypocrisy and go back to claiming WMD was the real reason for invading all along, not any of the reasons given since then.

Let's-pretend #2:
What if we capture Bin Laden tomorrow, even though Bush has said he doesn't care about capturing Bin Laden any more. How loudly do you think Bush would be trumpteting this triumph, this "fatal blow" to al-qaeda?

You propose a fantasy that could never come to pass. There are literally millions of dollars that could not be given away to buy evidence of WMD in Iraq. If you knew where they were and could get instant wealth and a passport out of Iraq, you would be rich and living on the Riviera. Not a single penny was paid out. Zero! The exact same amount of WMD found.

The only reason that none were found is because planting WMD in Iraq would have been totally impossible. It would have been revealed as a fraud within moments. You should have gotten the inkling something was wrong when David Kay opted to not to return to Iraq after Christmas 2003. I got my first real impression when the level of chemical warfare protection was reduced. I think the 3ID was still outside of Baghdad when that happened.

Well it would be a major relief to knowe that the Dub and his administratiion weren't as inept as them seem to be now.
