If we split the US in two halves, half conservative, half liberal, which would do better?

if you count liberal is people who voted for gore in the last election, then basically all the big cities and metropolitan areas would be in the liberal part. all the cosmopolitan and international cities. Statistics show that people with higher education tend to be more liberal, so i'm figuring the liberal side would be far better off

True, i know very few conservatives here in college. Its mostly liberals and moderates.

well the liberals would have a nice environment but would spend a little to much on welfare,medicade... programs like that

the conservates would have a very divided class system of a few really rich people and more poor/ middle class people with a horrible environment and a deficit to china b/c of military spending and would have horrible relations with other countries due to their isonlationist stand point

i'd pick the conservative side, overall we would have more money, more stuff to spend it on. i wouldnt have to worry about losing my job or getting turned down because of my race, if i were on the liberal side, no offense to blacks or hispanics, but my job could be taken away by a black or hispanic just because they are black or hispanic, not because they are better at the job. in the conservative society it would be best man for the job, regardless of race. the liberals would probably have a little bit better environment, but it comes to the point where it doesn't matter how great your environment is when you got nothing to do and no cash to spend. and there are conservatives with ejumacations, they just go to different places like.. bob jones or the citadel

With all due respect, that might reflect the social circles you are in, moreso than a true reflection of the politics of higher education students. I'm fairly sure that political beliefs would show a fairly marked distribution, depending on the field of study as well - i think it fairly safe to say that the business program would have a higher ratio of conservatives to liberals, than say an education major program.

yup, the large cities would be on the liberal side... liberals seem to get along better with their range of views. just look at current ultra conservatives.. they don't tolerate their moderate wing. rockefeller republican? haha, pretty much extinct. conservative side would go down the slippery slope of merging religion with government..freedoms will go away😛

ask yourself, which side would the kkk chose? 🙂

<People with higher educations tend to be liberal> That doesn't suprise me.. They've been brainwashed longer.. All kidding aside... Both can, do, and would, fall victim to their politcal correctness..

<< Most if not all the best presidents have been liberal. >>

You're an idiot. I don't have to go back past Reagan to prove it.

<< <People with higher educations tend to be liberal> >>

Quite the contrary. Better educated people tend to be more conservative - politically that is.

Seat of science, engineering, and higher learning would be on the liberal side.

There would be more artists, poets, actors, doctors and multi-cultural professionals on the liberal side.

Lawyers would mostly be on the conservative side. And the majority would only be upper crust, elites on the conservative side. Power would equate with money.

So, you'd have 1/8 of the people of the US on the conservative side, 7/8 other side. The Republicans would support farm subsidies, so the farmers wouldn't have to work. Then the conservatives would all starve to death, leaving plenty of room for the liberals to take back to build cultural sensitivity centers, gay churches, free health clinics, and solar power arrays.

Utopia at last 😉

Mwilding,

The literati have almost always been liberal (if not always).

Back after the election, someone, I forget who, posted your same opinion. He then went and checked the voting results, and had to recant his statement.

It was quite a thread around here for a bit. The higher the education level, the more to the left the person slides.

I don't know if I would say that education = liberal, but one thing is for certain: The more education you get, the more you see the Republican party for what they are. Some are lured back to the right, with supposed incentives, like tax cuts, but they forsake conscience for currency.

I thought lawyers donate to the democrat liberal side? Besides I wish someone would define liberal. The self proclaimed liberal hollywood types appear just as greedy with their money as any other human being.. I don't see them living in a small shack and donating all their assets for the greater humanity as a whole.. So what is the real story?

No one can be 100% conservative or liberal, therefore, every side will after a while fall apart in different groups, which are now known as liberals and conservatives 😉

Every Human is different, especially in his or her ideas, therefore you can't sort them by the ideas they have. No one will ever agree with someone else on everything.

Everyone is his or her own party.

Kosugi, I think you are right and I am right - both to an extent.

When I said "politically" I should have said "economically". Educated conservatives are usually looking at the effect that government has upon the economy. Educated liberals are more focused on the responsibilities of society to take care of its members.

Maybe the demographics are skewed to the liberal side, but I don't know. Most of my (Ivy League educated) friends are conservative. Most of my family is liberal (several PhDs in there).

Kosugi,

If I closed my eyes and let my mind go completely blank I could probably post as much brainless tripe as you.

Liberals of course. The conservatives would fail because they would have no one to discriminate against, so thus they would turn on themselves. They would kill each other off in a decade. Or make war with the liberals like they did in the civil war. They would lose again as well. Plus they would have suck @ss radio programs like that fat slob Rush Limbaugh. The liberals would struggle but make it because they would work to get along with each other. The more I hear the term "conservative" and see what they say and do, the more disdain I develop for them. And no I don't give a damn about what some of you will say about me either.

They would both wither and die... assuming an extreme liberal and extreme conservative states. The liberal state would quickly resemble Communist russian with everyone doing pretty badly, just getting by with the very basics in life. It would be a society absent of ambition, and thereby lacking in production, eventually leading to it's collapse back to the middle.

The Conservative state would quickly resemble a feudal society, with a small group of extremely wealthy people exploiting the incredibly poor... eventually leading to a revolt by the oppressed and a collapse back to the middle

AmusedOne

We've already seen a libertarian system in action.... Somalia, Afghanistan etc etc... Human nature defies the possibility of a libertarian state...

Hey, classy we don't give a damn about what you have to say either. 😉

In any case, on the education issue earlier. Here's exit poll data for the presidential election.

link here

In the category of "no high school degree", gore wins. Bush takes a slight advantage in "some college" and "college graduate" and gore takes a slight advantage in "post-graduate degree"

Conclusion? None, there's not really a large difference either way.

Doboji hit the nail on its head. Without checks and balances, both ideologies would fail.

If the liberals had their way, anyone who was lazy and did not work would get taken care of by the state i.e. by those who did work. The incentive for success would vanish and everyone would be depressed and chugging Vodka as in the collapsed soviet union. Lazy stupid people would do just fine.

If the conservatives had their way, the religous right would become even more annoying and everyone would committ suicide. Until that happened, the economy would be booming and everyone who worked hard would have a chance to excel. Lazy and stupid people would be forced to get up off their lazy buuts and do something.

(not that I'm biased or anything...)

Huh? The "conservatives" as you call them didn't "make war" in the Civil war. They seceded from the Union in protest of its attempts to dictate state level issues. The "Liberals" are the ones who invaded.

<< Seat of science, engineering, and higher learning would be on the liberal side. >>

How did you reach this conclusion? My experiences in engineering would say they lean towards the conservative side. But really, these are all broad generalizations.

<< So, you'd have 1/8 of the people of the US on the conservative side, 7/8 other side. >>

Umm.. so you're saying 88% of the US is liberal??

Why not build 3 spaceships, and put all the Democrat politicians and everyone who is a hardline Democrat follower in one, all the Republicans and everyone who follows that party completely in another, and finally all the people who think for themselves in the third. Whe would then launch the first 2 ships, and tell them both not to worry, because the third ship would be "right behind them". 😉

😉😀😉

(This post was guaranteed to offend everyone - I'm teasing people! 🙂)
