Discussion If Trump could win.... and NY shifted further to the right in this election..... hmm I wonder if this person might actually have a chance?

Could the Democrats version of Trump (Eric Adams) have a chance of actually being elected to a second term? If this country could elect someone like Trump, and New York as a whole voted more towards the right compared to the last election, the possibility is there.
However, this election could also imply.... that Adams might have a chance of winning 2028. Basically if Trump who is a convict can win... then what is there to stop another convict of winning? I personally would not like it.... but now Democrats are starting to be in the position that they have to start experimenting a strategy. The ones known to work are basically the formula that the Republicans are using, which is a populist campaign rhetoric. This is something that Adams is an expert in, remember when he said they were coming after him just because he is black? The reason why Trump got his supporters to come out in large numbers is because he made them feel that there was an entity that was out there to get him. Adams has the same clout cult.
The point being, Adams will have a hard time in the primary, but in the general it would be easy for him, as long as his opponent is not a Trumpanzee. If the later than the general election would turn into a level playing field, something not seen since 2012.
I know it sounds awful, and I do not like the thought of it as well, but I think Adams is all we have, he is the only one who can lead a populist movement with the same strength that Trump had led his populist movement.

Please let your brain marinate in its own juices for at least another year before starting any more threads.

EDIT: Look kiddo, I didn't have time to explain all this before because I was getting ready for work but there are several major problems with your thought train here.

1) Everyone (Democrats/independents/Republicans/liberals/progressives/libertarians/conservatives and all their various medias) hold Democratic politicians accountable. Al Franken was run out of DC because of a silly picture from decades earlier for fuck's sake. Democrats have always been held to a high standard while Republicans can shit their pants on stage while their supporters will spend $50 for dirty Trump diaper scented air fresheners to stick it to the libs.

2) Liberals do not view politics as a team sport, winning for the sake of winning. They want to win in order to actually fix at least some of the problems that we face every day, using policies that have already been shown to work in every other country. They aren't inventing new paradigms by reading tea leaves. We want to take successful policies and apply them here.

3) If we wanted to be ruled by shitbags, we would vote Republican

EDIT 2: The best way to get Democrats elected has always been to give the GOP full control for a couple of years. The electorate ALWAYS responds by RUNNING back to Democrats to fix the messes. The GOP has been getting better and better at fucking destroying everything around us much more efficiently as well. Took 12 years to run into Clinton's arms. Took 8 years to run into Obama's arms. Took 4 years to run into Biden's arms. If we still have elections in 2026, Dems will likely capture the House and Senate.

First they laugh at you (us)
Then they call you a danger (us)
Then you win

Worked for Trump.. could work for him

I mean if Trump is corrupt.. Adams certainly is.

Maybe America is going through done with goody good guys.. and wants villains in charge!

But he's black.. that'll cost him votes if it costed Kamala votes.

Everybody tries to be Trump but basically always finds out that is impossible.

Adams is cooked and just wants a pardon.

Lol, Eric Adams. Your brain is completely fried.

If anything, Eric Adams is a symptom: local, high profile Democrats are doing badly at their jobs and providing basic government services. Hard to sell big national plans when state and local governments struggle to do basic things. Like, why did NYC need to pay a consultant to tell them to put the trash in a fucking container instead of of leaving bags on the sidewalk? As a liberal, progressive-minded person, that shit drives me up a fucking wall. Just a complete waste of money (to pay a consultant) and reinforces an idea that government is not being a good steward of tax payer funds.

The model for effective D state/local governance is probably a bunch of even keeled technocrats who simply ignore the fringey people that cripple good decision making.

Yeah how many millions were spent on studies and consultancy fees to produce a frickin wheelie bin? GOP will stick up for Adams because he is the grifter many of them wish they could become.
