If time travel were possible, wouldnt we know already?

The way i see it, if it were at all possible, someone would have travelled here to tell us already... maybe someone who tries to tell us to avoid doing something. or just to brag about what the future holds.

What do u people think?

Isaac Asimov avoided this issue by stating that time travel could only go back to when it was first invented and no further.

Is that something he pulled out of his ass, or does he have an actual reason behind that theory?

What if you can only travel as far back as when the machine was constructed?

Edit: bah, beat to the punch.

He was a science fiction author, it was no more pulled from his ass than the very theory of time travel in the first place.

I honestly don't recall. Its been awhile... 🙁

well everyday there are people who claim to be from the future. maybe some are really real and some are fake, but do to the fake that most are fake...we can distinguish the real ones. And quit possibly the ones who would come back...have certain rules to follow and must only change one thing. If they change more than one thing, it would be obvious...thus on return they'd be punished.

because teh future hasent happened yet

you coudl go 1000 years into the future but it woudl oblybe 1 possiable future, so you could go tell people but then you go back to your time and it might not have been the future from the time you left

One SF book I read dragged a wormhole around at relativistic speed. So the time travel was simply going through the wormhole to the end in a different time. Another class of machine that could only go as far back as construction would be anything that requires a receiver. Seems like it would be much easier to send/read a signal with equipment on the receiving end.

Time is like a door. If we open the door (in a sense) in 2008, as long as that door remains "Open", we can go forward, and "back" (to 2008). Since that door was not open earlier than 2008, we can not go back past that.

So in theory, if we open the door of time in 2008, someone from the year 3,000 can just walk right in, since it's been open for them

Have any sources? Or are you a scientistt?

There are many theories

1) You can only do it in your own lifetime.

2) You can only go as far back as since the time machine was invented.

3) A particularly interesting one is that if you do travel back in time, it splits into multiple realities. So basically, you can go back in time from Time1, but you would actually create Time2 when you went back.

4) Something like a TimeCop exists.

5) It is not possible.

6) You lose all memory when you go back.

I read in depth about it years ago (Maybe 99?) but I don't recall where. All I know is that it made a lot of sense and stuck with me as what I believe could be true.
