This is great for people who don't have a giant PS2 library sitting in their house that they had hoped to carry over to their new PS3 Slim.

For those that do because of their long history of buying PS2 titles, it would make sense to at least offer some sort of trade up deal through Gamestop or wherever, where you could take your copy of MGS2 in, trade it for a code that you can type into PSN and unlock a downloadable version of the game.

It's still not as good as being able to just pop in my copy of MGS2 and play it, but it would be something at least.

Like selling over-priced hard drives, wireless adapters, and online access to games?
Yes, kind of like that. Microsoft is trying to make a buck. That's not something exclusive to Microsoft. Sony and Nintendo tend to do the same thing, just in different ways.

But, is Sony paying you or something? If not, why are you so emotionally invested in promoting the PS3 and bashing the 360 at every opportunity? Do you feel like your choice of console somehow defines you, and that since you chose a PS3, that any criticism of the PS3 is somehow a criticism of yourself? And that, hey, bashing the 360 shows how you're BETTER than 360 owners?

Ordinarily, I wouldn't even care, because, hey, it's the Internets. But you make an annoying ass out of yourself by jumping into every thread that's related to the 360 (maybe the Wii, too? I don't go in those too often) and just bash it relentlessly, often using the thinnest of opportunities (for an example, look at what you did just now!), which completely derails the original topic. It's astonishingly immature behavior, and, speaking from life experience, if you make a habit of this kind of thing, it WILL carry into real life.

So, for yourself and for us, please try to grow up a bit. Thanks.

What the fuck are you talking about? I usually only enter XBOX hardware issue threads. Furthermore, I only paid $32 for my PS3 and have bought 4 games, all but one used, in the past 18 months I've had it. I really like the PS3 and would like to get an XBOX 360 but cannot tolerate paying for shitty quality. Hence, I will wait and bash it at every opportunity until MS fixes the problem. I have absolutely no problem with the XBOX 360 as a console but I cannot tolerate laziness, not in what I buy and the people I deal with. This thread had nothing to do with XBOX 360 and I never even mentioned it in my first couple of posts until someone else did.

EDIT: And, yes, I am loyal. If a company makes a good product, I will continue to purchase their products until they fuck up, then I stop. I never buy the cheapest item, no matter how low the price is. But don't confuse that loyalty with fanboyism. I just like quality products. Apparently you don't. You will rarely, if ever, see me defend SONY in threads. Sometimes I will join in the bashing if I think it's logical.

I really don't know why you guys are jumping on Dari. He's done nothing more than state his opinion the same as erwos and RPS. I don't think it's crazy to think they would allow both discs and PSN downloads to work with a PS2 emulator as that is exactly what they've done with PS1 emulation.

How does bashing help anything? If you hate it so much, send nasty emails to MS about it. All you do here is annoy everyone and make yourself look like an asshole.

I mean, come on, I like my PS3, and right now, much more than my 360 (which has RROD'ed), but please...leave the fanboism at the door.

No fanboyism here. I'm speaking of a theoretical Sony doing wonderful theoretical things, which would theoretically make consumers happy. I have every reason to believe they will continue to run themselves into the ground by not doing things which promote customer loyalty and general good feelings towards their brand name.

If the next generation of XBox has Blu-ray and the future Final Fantasy games are multi-platform, Sony can DIAF as far as I'm concerned. I actually wish they'd go the way of Sega and just become a software publishing entity, although that would leave no one but Nintendo to keep pricing in check, so to that end here's hoping against hope that Sony will turn their business practices around...not holding me breath for it though.

It's actually pretty sad that I'm so vehement against Sony now. Back in the day I owned a 27in Trinitron TV, 21in Trinitron CRT monitor, PS2, Sony VCR, Sony DVD, and universal remote. I actually go out of my way to make sure I don't purchase Sony products whenever it can be helped now.

Because there is no point complaining to MS if I don't have their console. However, people can vote with their wallets and seeing people buying crappy hardware just tells them everything is business as usual. What's worse is when people buy shitty hardware knowing it's shitty then come and complain. However, there is no point in attacking them directly. Better to harp on the hardware then individuals. Hopefully, this will make them take their complaints to MS and resolve this issue.

Yeah, sorry bro, I was thinking about how to re-word that last statement, since it wasn't really directed at you, but came right after your part. :p

I bought when the Falcon hardware came out. I still can't believe I spent around $1/GB on a hard drive in the year 2009 though. It just blows my mind, especially since I'm spending 1/10th of that on desktop HDDs.

No problem .

The odd thing is that the Wii is supposed to be the rock solid console this generation, and it's the one I had to send mine in awhile back to get the optical drive fixed...go figure. I'd even go so far as to say I abuse the PS3 compared to my other consoles, and it has been rock solid throughout it's life. It gets the most usage by far too, because I have lots of PS games, PS2 games, PS3 games, streaming media, and Blu-ray movies that need playing. My PS3 gets used hard every day by myself and family. To that end, Sony has created a great product, but as an overall company they are horrid IMO.

yep, my launch 60gb has been an insane workhorse. It has never had a problem, and I use it regularly for games and BD playback.
I just need to upgrade the hard drive one of these days, I know which drive I want but haven't bought it yet.

Hell, after finding out my first launch PS2 was a dud when I tried to hook it up, the next launch model I got - after finding out there was one that hadn't been picked up - had served me well. I think I had one Disc Read Error, but otherwise PS2 game and DVD playback all worked wonderfully. And I abused that system like no other, so far as to, well... doing a trick to force the drive open. :p

Ps2 emulation on PC is already pretty good, I'd imagine sony could do it in software easily enough. They have the knowledge, and the Cell probably has the power.
They won't have an easy time as MS though, Microsoft's forcing the issue on standard libraries and frameworks really helped Xbox backwards compatibility.

I got my 80 gig PS3 because it did everything INCLUDING PS2 games. IF i didn't have my older PS3 there would be no way in hell i would buy one now without it. i have a huge stack of a PS2 games i enjoy playing.

having it as a download service after takeing it away is bullshit. it is something they should have kept in the system.

thats just stupid. if they wanted to sell them they should have left in teh hardware support they had from the start.

A small fee to download emulation software would be perfectly acceptable I think.

Fixed.

Making customers rebuy PS2 games to play them on PS3 would be ludicrous. While ludicrous is Sony's primary mode of operation, that might be a little too shady even for them.

Uh, no.

Depends on your definition of good I suppose, but many games are fully playable at high res. Then again, about the only systems emulated worse than PS2 are Xbox, Xbox 360, and PS3.

BTW, hasn't microsoft been reselling digital download xbox games that aren't in their backwards compatibility support? Like marvel versus capcom 2?

That's an XBLA game, not Xbox Originals. It's a port written specifically for the new systems, not a patched version of the older game.
