If they built a Titanic II....

...Would you sail on it?

I remember a few years back, there was actually a company that wanted to do this. Their plan was to build an exact, functioning replica of the ship for historical transatlantic tours. The ship celebrates it's 100th anniversary this year, as construction started in 1911.

This ship would be a near exact replica. The rooms would look the same, the ship itself would look the same. Every detail would be meticulously replicated, except...

-it would comply with modern maritime safety regulations
-it would have the required amount of modern lifeboats by 2011 standards
-it would be equipped with modern navigational systems and a computerized bridge, complete with radar and GPS.
-it would be equipped with modern diesel-electric engines including bow thrusters, making it more maneuverable.
-it would be constructed of modern materials, making the ship's hull stronger.

So, would you do it, or would it be tempting fate?

I actually watched about 10 minutes of this movie on the SyFy channel. God it sucked balls. I think it's on Netflix streaming now too.

I noticed it the other day while browsing the netflix streaming choices. From the description it sounds like it might be the worst movie of all time.

Definitely, the Titanic has always fascinated me, and I'd love to see a reproduction of it.

Fuck, no. The boat is going down bow first because of all the stupid people doing the Rose and jack pretend you are flying move.

sure why not? I'm not superstitious. Although, I can't afford a normal cruise so I probably can't afford a historical transatlantic tour.

So...in every way but aesthetics/architecture it would be a modern ocean liner. Fuck yeah, I'd sail on it.

I would play poker to win passage aboard. Then, without obviously knowing my place, I'd find a hot rich bitch and run mad game on her to steal her from her douche bag boyfriend. Then I'd post about it all on facebook.

i probably wouldn't because i *think* it would be a transatlantic voyage from the UK to the united states. that is boring to me. i would, however, have faith in the technical aspects of the ship, which is what i believe this question is really asking.

I wanted to watch this the other day on Netflix but my girlfriend refused. I love awful, terrible movies, and this just looks like it will be amazing (as in so bad, it makes me so happy to just laugh at how awful it is). I did persuade her to watch... Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. It was insanely epic and awful.

EDIT: Getting back to the topic at hand... I would love to sail on a replica Titanic. That would be insanely amazing.

Absolutely I would. I'd love to travel in old school, elegant style. Things were done nicer years ago, and the conveyances had a style that isn't matched by modern transportation. There was an attention to detail that's lacking with modern transportation. I'd like to ride on vintage trains(or faithful reproduction) also.

Might be worth doing, depends on the cost of the trip. Probably wouldn't be on its maiden voyage myself though, cost too much.

Odds of hitting an iceberg are slim. Global warming guys. :p

This being a more cynical time, I could *totally* see a vendor setting up on the bow with a couple of Nooses, a couple baseball bats, and stack of life sized Leonardo DiCaprio dolls.

I mean - If a movie costs $20, then beating the living shit out of LDiC prior to tossing him overboard ought to be worth $100. :D
