If there was a draft....

Same here and hopefully to serve on the Big E - CVN 65 just like my dad used to... I only can dream now anyways...

The government gets wise to that real fast. They put limits on the number of recruits that the Navy and Air Force can have in draft times. At that point you are stuck with Army or Marines.

With 4 feet of metal rods in my back I don't have a thing to worry about and even if I did Canada is isn't that far away. 😉

If I enlisted of my own accord before, I would go on the draft. Not necessarily because I'd be looking for a fight, but because security for our country is important...something I believe in. Of course, there are going to be those, who always argue that service is for losers, but frankly, there is a lot offered, in terms of education, training and benefits.
I have a ton of respect for people who serve our country in such a way today, those people who risk life and limb for the security of us and our families. 🙂

Ahhh, the security of the air. It's really underrated. Just ask the dudes who dropped the load on Japan. 😉

I'd stay home either way. Tried joing the marines and the reserves last yr and get this. The refraction of my eyes is too great to join even though my vision is 20/20 wearing contacts or glasses. So no matter what I cant go. I woud if I could and tried the marines, army, army reserve, and the air force as a last resort since I actually wanted to fight. None will take me cause of the shape of my eyes, so I guess oh well, time to get an education.

It depends on the conflict. For a just, necessary conflict, I'd go (even though I already served the requisite 8 years active and reserve previously). For Bush's Iraq vendetta, umm, no. I'd help my child avoid it, just like the politicians do. 😉
If they had found the fabled "WMD", it'd be a different story. Hell, even the stuff the U.S. gave them had been destroyed.... But hey, Halliburton, needed to generate some revenue.

I fail to see how if they had WMD it would be any better..we used WMD on japan.not to mention all the other crappy countries that have horrific weapons already...i dont see how iraq has any relevance whatsoever when it comes to that specifically

Ummm, because it was supposedly the justification for Bush taking the country to war?
Hello? Is this thing on? *taptaptap
Damn. *shakes head

Edit: I'm not sure if you are saying even that wouldn't be justification or? I suppose that's something worth debating, separately. But the story was, Saddam has WMD and is going to USE THEM ON US, WE MUST STOP HIM. That's what I based by initial support for this war on.

I would serve, but only if there was an option for non-aggressive role ie: field medic or communications tech.

I am || <-- this close to being a pacifist, and my loyalty to my country would put me in a very difficult ethical position. If such a non-aggressive role was not an option, I would conscientiously object.
