LOW FLIGHT

Oh, I have slipped the surely bonds of earth
And hovered out of ground effect on semi-rigid blades;
Earthward I've auto'ed and met the rising brush of
Non-paved terrain;
And done a thousand things you would never care to
Skidded and dropped and flared
Low in the heat soaked roar.
Confined there, I've chased the earthbound traffic
And lost the race to insignificant
Headwinds.
Forward and up a little in ground effect
I've topped the FBO's hedge with drooping turns
Where never Skyhawk or even Ultralight flew.
Shaking and pulling collective, I've lumbered
The low untrespassed halls of victor airways,
Put out my hand and touched a tree.

Dedicated to all Helicopter Pilots
Author unknown for obvious reasons

There would be a lot of ATers trying something new for the first time...at least it'd be the first time they actually admit to it ;)

if I wanted to fly a heli I guess I could join the army or airforce.

Is the vision requirement for airplanes the same as for helicopters?

and is it more fun to fly an airplane than a helicopter?

The Army would be a better choice for helos, they fly more of them. Plus, you don't need a college degree in the Army to fly, while you do in the Air Force.

The military's vision requirement is far more strict than the FAAs for a civilian pilot's license. Don't know off hand what it is however...

Airplanes and helicopters are both fun to fly, you can take an intro flight at a flight school in both and see which you prefer. For myself, I like flying airplanes, I love flying helicopters!

An airplane glides gracefully through the air, a helicopter simply beats the air into submission. :D

If ATOT members survived...that would be...interesting.

Since I'm in Los Angeles, and since there are quite a bit of Bruins and Trojans among us...I'm going to hope at least one of us in LA is a girl.

I can't imagine what putting a bunch of ATOT guys in a meeting hall would be like when we finally find each other.

At least we can all get a big kick by saying "f4p f4p f4p" outloud, since we'd all would understand it :D

A helicopter is just a bunch of parts flying in close formation.

Helicopters don't really fly, they are just so ugly the ground repels them.

Helicopter: An object composed of 10,000 moving parts all trying to go in different directions.

Blonde's Helicopter Lessons

One day, a blonde went to go get lessons on how to fly a plane. The guy at the airport said there were no more plane flying lessons this year but she could take helicopter lessons.The blonde agreed and the man taught her and said, "I'll radio you every 1000 feet you go in the air." The blonde agreed.

He jumped in and took off. At 1000 feet, she radioed him and asked how she was doing. He said she was doing great. At 2000 feet, she radioed him and asked how she was doing. He said she was doing great. But right before she got to 3000 feet, the propeller stopped and she started twirling to the ground. When she landed, he went over to pull her out of the helicopter. He asked her what went wrong because she was doing perfect before.The blonde said, "At 2500 feet, I started to get cold so I turned the big fan off."
