I have thought about this often before, what would the world me like if only a small group of people survived (for simplicities sake, let's say everyone lived within 100miles of each other). ATOT has a quite diverse group of people, though I'd venture to guess we have no brain surgeons/rocket scientists among us. But I would be willing to bet we have quite a diverse population of members. Some of are computer geeks, some work in the food industry, some work in manufacturing, some work in the medical field, some work in education, etc.

I realize that if ATOT members (or anything of group of large size) were the only people left of the earth, things would be quite different. No doubt, we would have no long term electric power (we'd use up all power resources in no time at all), no world wide internet, a complete lack of resources to produce gasoline, oil, and other parts of our modern lives. But I would venture to guess that we would could survive using our knowledge. A lot of people are quite smart on these boards.

What do you guys think?

Can you do something that would be useful and unique, that you could teach to other people to survive? I mean something other than posting on ATOT.

There would be a lot of guys whose chances of landing a date would drastically improve. Also, I'd be pissed off that my g/f wasn't around since she's not an AT member, so I'd be moping around a bit.

EDIT: Actually, HotChic, Linuxboy, PAB, and I would probable form a collective off somewhere and live off the land (what land was left at least). I'd take care of the machinery, HotChic can take care of the horses, IIRC Linuxboy has a green thumb so he could take care of growing things, and PAB would just be live-in entertainment as HC, LB and I contributed to PAB's neuroses.

No internet? We'd see a mass suicide, and then what few of us were left would divide into factions, along the lines of what ZV mentioned, and go wander off to parts of the earth where we'd probably never see each other again. Honestly, I find the idea of only AT members on this planet to be extremely uncomfortable / scary. Quite literally. The idea of these temperments, these minds, these attitudes, being the last people left on earth, I'd hope we were never discovered by an alien civilization because then the entry for Earth in the Hitchhiker's Guide would not be "mostly harmless".

Well, for one, there would be no ATOT anymore. Anandtech's members are geographicly separated, and their wouldn't be much of a worldwide communication system left over.

Even if we DID live within 100 miles of each other, I doubt that we'd all find each other.
