If the win2k admin password expires, how do you change it?

I can no longer log is with my admin account...... I think the password expired, but I don't know. WTF do I do now? I don't have priveledges to open the "usres nd passwords" control panel....

It's not the "Administrator" account, but another account with admin priveledges.....

Any nifty tools would be appreciated 🙂

Wasn't there a prompt for you to change your pw a few days before it expired? Easy way would be to use built-in admin account to reset your account.

Seemed like he doesnt have access to the Administrator account.

Sounds fishy to me as if he wants to use a "tool" to get in as the admin or something, if I am wrong sorry. The people at my work are getting locked out all the time of W2K or out of the network login so it is a daily thing for me to reset passwords. The lovely thing we have now with some of our intranet system passwords is; that it is no word in the dictionary, must be 9+ characters long, no symbols, and have at least 2 numbers which are not on the ends for passwords, makes it real easy for people to forget them. Oh and if you do 3 mispasswords you get locked and must be reset. Gotta love the federal goverment huh.

As far as I know, when your password expires it will make you change it when you attempt to log in. It will not deny you access and say 'sorry your password has expired, you can't log in.' It will ask you to change it.

If it's just saying bad password or some other error, it is possible that your account got locked out.

Not just the federal gov't... we use the same exact guidelines... even for our web applications.

Anyway, it's been fixed. Apparently win2k decided I didn't need a user account any more and deleted it for no reason. I had to get the Administrator account password from one of the help desk guys. I went to help someone w/ something, and I when I came back, he was sitting at my desk looking puzzled unable to locate my account. He made me a new one.

BTW: this is a federal gov't computer, and we're required to use special symbols in our passwords.
