if the iPod interface is so good, why can't I edit playlists on the fly?

the iPod interface is touted as being very user friendly and intuitive. Yet it still does not have a good playlist editing feature, even on a touchscreen other than the on the go list.

Is this asking too much. What are we on, the 7th gen now? The 12th iteration?
or is there a feature that I'm not aware of.

I think the interface sucks and have never understood all of the circle jerking around the iPod (sorry mm).

I whole-heartedly share in this distaste for the Apple iPod interface.

I wish creative and ipod would make a love child. I love my itouch, but I miss the living hell out of the ease of my creative zen-w.

Also not a fan of it. My wife offered me her iPod when my mp3 player was dead, ended up just mowing the lawn without music.

Agreed. There are actually several things from many different MP3 players I've tried that I'd like to see married all together in one fantastic device, but that will probably never happen.

ipods suck.
Having said that, we REALLY dont need to engage is this debate again.

If you already bought one and wanna know the best way to use it, go to your nearest coffee shop. I'm sure at least 30 people will volunteer their services.

I just create an on the go playlist and add the other playlist in, then delete stuff I don't want. I preferred the Karma for on the go playlist editing, but not for much else.

Shit like that simply boggles my mind. The designers HAVE to know that people want features like that, but they simply won't include it. I just don't get how things can be designed so poorly by such a large team of people. Just like my old LG phone that had a button on the OUTSIDE of the phone that when held three seconds would turn off any kind of ringer. I mean really? Do these people not have pockets?

Yes I'm aware of on the go, but its very limited. Can't rename the playlist, can't modify existing ones, etc.

On the "classic" ipods I believe you can start a new on the go, at which point you can't edit it by adding more. But until you do that you can keep adding. On the new touch/iphone ipod interface, you can remove songs from an on the go playlist and add to it. I haven't figured out how to save it, though. Maybe they removed that, which would be stupid.

rockbox sounded really bad on my 4 gen, I suspect that it doesnt do VBR so well.

then again I never really used the playlist, I made one with all the good songs in but I never played it...

I don't use my 1g mini much, but what i've listened to so far, both ogg and mp3, has sounded fine. You can always boot to the original firmware, and they update it frequently so maybe bad vbr support was a known problem that's been fixed by now? To me, it's worth it solely for support of more codecs and for not having to have ephpod installed just to load music on the stupid thing :p
