If Starbucks went bankrupt, would you care?

Of course I would care. They have good coffee under $2 for a large cup. Do I care that I can get one for $1.50 somewhere else? No, because I drop the change into tip jar anyways. Plus I can get a scone or a muffin in the morning before I go for a ride and meet up with my buddies in a nice environment. And they have a kiosk at work here.
Dunkin Donuts on the other hand, can go bankrupt today I wouldn't care one bit.

I don't care. SB took out a lot of smaller coffee shops and brought about a culture of people who wait in line for 5 minutes to get a $4 speciality coffee drink and a $3 chuck of coffee cake. Those people just annoy me. I'm not a coffee guy though.

Not one bit. I won a gift card 2 years ago...and never used it. I don't remember the last time I bought anything from Upchucks...I mean 4-bux.

Loving all the comments about being able to make better brew at home

Eh. I'll take my little french press and a fresh ground sumatra over the excessively bitter and overroasted taste of Starbucks drip.

I don't do latte/fraps/caps/ect so I don't try to compare those.

It tastes better to me, and is about 1/10 the cost per cup.

Actually, Starbucks greatly enhanced the specialty coffee market. The entire market was more of an underground gathering before Starbucks. A great number of people were further intrigued, especially since Starbucks started and remained true to the coffee culture for years before moving to what they are now.

So, any negative effects to Starbucks will likely equally impact the smaller shops.

Starbucks doesn't even carry that great of coffee! I don't really eat at McDonalds, but I do love their coffee in the mornings.

Just today they announced another huge drop in earnings and plan even more store closings.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Starbucks Corp. announced a new round of store closures and layoffs as it reported Wednesday that its profit dropped 69 percent in its fiscal first quarter with sales continuing to slide.

The company plans to close 300 underperforming stores around the world by the end of the fiscal year in addition to the 600 it already planned to close in the U.S. The company has already closed 384 of those stores.

If people dont spring for those $5 lattes anymore will Starbucks finally go tits up?

No, I would not care if Starbucks went bankrupt.

I said no originally but I don't want Starbuck's customers invading my local coffee shops. So yes, I do care.

Why? Because the local coffee shop and the owners you appreciate so much might make more money? Or because you might have to wait another couple of minutes in line?

A lot of people would lose their job. A LOT OF PEOPLE. So yeah, it would be a really bad thing for them to go bankrupt. But as for their products, I wouldn't miss them.

I guess it's a good thing McDonalds is doing good and hiring.

Not in the sense that I'd personally miss them but I think it wouldn't be a good thing since that means a LOT of people across the globe would be out of jobs, which just compounds the current economy issues.
