If someone was to give you a computer...

deftron

Lifer
with all identical parts (top of the line), the only difference being CPU (and of course motherboard & RAM, if applicable),
and gave you a choice between an AMD XP 2000 or a Pentium4 2.2ghz...what would you choose?

hhermm , thats quite a hard decision... Although I am 100% AMD fan... I would have to say INTEL on this one , man whats wrong with me .! ARg :Q😕

Since , the new p4 Northwood CPU is lookin good ! actully GREAT

<< I assume you mean the Northwood P4.
Since I do not overclock, I voted AMD.
>>

I voted for AMD since it wasn't stated as Northwood. Also would that come with RD-RAM? DDR? or the killer SD-RAM like Dell, etc. like to sell instead.

I didnt mean to make it so hard....

It would be top of the line , your preference on EVERYTHING , just choose a processor.

Yes, you can get a Northwood P4
Memory can be Rambus, DDR or whatever you want.

Because of the huge overclocks the 2.2 northwood can achieve, it gets my vote. Not overclocking however, I think you would have to choose the amd.

Loaded 🙂 I would even have to tread to the Dark Side again for that 🙂 Northwood 2.2A I just like the huge amount of cache on that.

Which system would be the best FREE system ?

Either! If it were free, damn, I'd take a Cyrix based machine!

BTW, I voted AMD.

aren't all pentiums 4's above 1.6 based on the Northwood core? but yeah, my vote for Intel in terms of overclocking. But it must come with RDram and a mb capable of overclocking. Otherwise, AMD 🙂

The Socket 423 Willamette core processors are topped out at 1.7GHz IIRC, but there are both Willamette and Northwood cores in the 478 form all the way up to 2GHz (and only the Northwood at 2.2GHz).

edit- and I voted for the P4 'cause I'm a tweak freak 🙂

I'd take whatever they gave me 🙂

If they were going to give me one or the other, I'd have to go with the Intel Machine.

For those who said "Northwood" wasn't specified, it was stated to be 2.2 GHz and the Willamette doesn't come in 2.2 GHz. Secondly, never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Same here. I haven't used an Intel system since Pentium days and it would be cool to give them a try.

I would take a pair of athlonXP's and Tyan dual-athlon mobo. P4/ Norhwood looks pretty good, only that it cracks RC-5 painfully slow 😉

I would take a Dell....

er, I mean the P4 2.2 cause I already have an AMD XP (well I have a P4 too, but just not that fast) 😀

Anyone that doesn't recognise the superiority of the current Intel offer over the current AMD one is blind to say the least.

Intel.

Speed is fairly comparable, but the Intel runs cooler, has the IHS, and while I haven't had any problems with recent VIA chipsets, I'd take an Intel chipset over VIA.

So in the end, comparable in terms of performance, but the intel rig will have some nifty features that the AMD doesn't.

I voted for the Pentium 4 2.2GHz because I kinda want to try one out and see how much I can overclock one, but I would never actually spend my cold cash on an Intel product. I just can't wait 'till hammer time!
