Will you be assessed a NSF fee if its for more than what you have in your checking account?

Yeah, but why would you wait to find out? I'd be on the phone calling my bank stopping payment on any of the stolen number range in the book, Stat!

i believe the place that accepts the check is liable. they are supposed to check your DL. at least thats what they told me back in my cashiering days at CompUSA.

nope...checks are one of the worst ways to pay for anything. Even a stop payment is only as good as the acceptor denying it. If it actually hits your account you can ultimately be liable.

Many banks will cave in for lesser things, but have a major problem that they can't get reimbursed for and you are fucked.

Despite all these IDENTITY THEFT!!!!OMG!!!! people, CC's are the safest way to pay 9 times out of 10.

FYI, every check you write and give to someone has all of the information necessary to print a whole book of checks drawn on your account. So there's little difference between having your checkbook stolen and paying for something with a check.

Ouch, I never thought of that. that's true. while checks use fancy paper with security, I've seen some checks that are actually printed straight out of a laser printer on regular paper. I used to get my pay check that way before it was direct deposit. So I don't think that safety paper even means anything nowdays.

not to mention the added bonus they get while you try to prevent identity theft..."CAN I SEE YOUR ID PLEASE?"

Check writers are about 90% people that can't afford to write the ones they pass. I really feel sorry for them and at the same time pissed I have to pay for their fuck ups.

Everything I pay is pretty much done electronically, ACH, debit card, etc. I do occasionally write a check, but very seldom. Where I used to send relatives a check for birthdays, X-mas, I now just send preloaded gift cards.
