I would poop on it and eat the controller cable because I'm 1 month old.

Ditto. Imagine the technology we'd have today if something like that was out 20 years ago..

Imagine what our kids are gonna see.

You know....besides World War 3rd.

I used to have dreams like this.

It's 2000 years ago. I'm standing in the town center of a beautiful, serene village that is 5 minutes away from being torn down & pillaged by rampaging hordes. I stand tall, smoke a cigarette, give a gut-wrenching speech to my townspeople in a language they don't understand and pick up my BFG9000....

While there have been some significant improvements in microprocessor design in the last 20 years, most of the improvement has come from process improvement / miniaturization. A PS3 wouldn't make a significant difference in the tech we have today. Now, if you brought a plant to make cell processors, lock stock, and barrel you might make a change.

The data flow of the ps3 architecture is a relatively (within the last decade) new concept. Not sure if it would have been possible to implement with older process technology, but the cell architecture is a true design win for many applications. 1 Cell chip may have been the most powerful super computer in the world back then.
Oh, and SGI may have been interested in looking at the techniques utilized in the graphics chip.

Though I wonder if technology back then would even have been advanced enough to look at the circuit in full detail.

I'd complain that someone didn't send me an Xbox 360 instead. :D

Or I'd complain that it wouldn't play Metroid.

What would people have done with a PS3? It's not like the technology existed in 1987 to duplicate it on the same manufacturing process. And if you duplicate it on a larger process, I'm sure you'd lose a lot of performance. Would people have been able to figure out how it works/how to code for it/etc? PS3 seems complicated enough without having to reverse engineer the whole thing.

That said, assuming there would be buyers, I'd sell it, invest in MS, sell that to invest in Yahoo, and sell that to invest in Google. Win-win-win-win-win.

If someone sent me a PS3 20 years ago, I'd give it to Sony in good faith to tell them what NOT to do 20 years later.

Sell it to IBM, Motorola, or Intel (I doubt that AMD could have afforded a competing offer back in 1987!). There is a few billion dollars worth of processor R&D technology in that thing!

There would be only a few less movie and game options in 1987 than there are now. ;)
