If skydiving was ever on your to-do list...I recommend you do it!

Went today to Skydive San Marcos to start my training progression to get my license. HOLY-FUCKING-SHIT, that crap is awesome and I am officially hooked.

If you ever thought about doing it, go for it. Talk about an adrenaline rush!

Jumps 1-3 done, 11 to go in AFF and 22 for my A-License.

Done it twice. It was my high school graduation gift. An amazing experience. The second time I went, it was cloudy and there was a rainbow and I fell through a cloud and no I wasn't high.

I jumped 25 times during my training in the USMC, and at least a dozen more times in Vietnam. It makes no gawd-damned sense to jump out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft...but it's fun as hell when done recreationally.
Jumping in combat was a bit less fun.

The new parachutes would be a bit more fun than the old-style round chutes that didn't give you much control.

I spent a summer working next to the Lodi Parachute Center. We watched them jump all day, every day...and watched 3 die in the surrounding grape vineyards...One guy landed in the middle of Hwy. 99, but fortunately, traffic was fairly light...and he walked away from that one.

Might be going to San Marcos during Spring Break depending on some things.

Probably just a tandem dive though, I suspect this will be a one-time thing for me.

Jumping out of an aircraft during combat seems to me to be making yourself a predictable target.

Oh, you're the type of person that has an interesting story for anything someone says, aren't you?

From ZombieLand
Are you one of these guys that tries to one-up everybody else's story?
No. I knew a guy way worse at that than me.

Good luck to you OP. Im not sure if I will ever skydive. Splattering on the ground at terminal velocity is not my bag, baby. 🙂

Nah, but I worked 30 years one summer with that guy...

I went to Airborne school at Benning. Was a rush but I don't remember the jumps very well at all. But I want to go for recreation now

edit:
quick story:
This badass black marine was with me and after we landed there was a commotion. Found out later that he had like a partial release of his chute, so he lived but landed faster than supposed to and broke his ankle. The jumpmaster asked him why he didn't pull the reserve and he said he didn't know how (I don't know how many times we did that motion, but whatever). He then pulled the reserve and poof. nothing happened. Jumpmaster told him to go to church that night and then they went to file a report on the incident

When is that for you? I'm trying to go back this weekend, might only have the funds for 2 jumps until my next payday.

That's why you have to remember to pull the pilot chute. If that doesn't work...

I actually called a sky-diving place today, apparently over 200lbs = can't jump here.

I weigh 215.

Wierd. Most of the DZs say 220 is their cutoff. Usually they'll just pair you with someone smaller.

Oh, had my first malfucnction on my 2nd jump. Chute opened up, looked up at it and my lines were all twisted together. Went through the proper procedures and it all worked out. 🙂

I thought it was okay. But it's a must as an one-time-in-your-life thing.

Most of the rush comes from riding the small puddle jumper and the anticipation when they open the door. I thought the dive would feel like a big rollercoaster, but of course it feels like NOTHING as you're just free falling and nothing is holding you back.

My friends and I went Class 6 white water rafting after. Now THAT is a motherfucking rush.

Skydiving = 30 min prep, 10 min plane ride, 10 min jump $150-200.

White Water Rafting = 20 min prep, 4 hours of OWNAGE, lunch with the awesome nature (free), rest, another 4 hours of OWNAGE, come home absolutely having a blast and tired after 9 hours.

$90pp

Hmm. That is not a good sign right there. 2nd jump + fouled chute = me going elsewhere.

But what if someone could shoot you in the head before you landed. He may or may not be a murderder depending on your preference. 😛

Nah, wasn't bad. Wasn't as easy as say an end cell closure or a loose brake after canopy opening, but at least it wasn't a line over or a ball-o-shit resulting in a cutaway. 🙂

Spring Break is next week but effectively starts as soon as my final is done tomorrow.

I'd be going this weekend, probably Sunday.
