Ok, I would not mind so much but he did make millions of, well something that does not even rhyme.
I have met people who played guitar for 20, 30 year who are incredible. The best some of them get is playing in their garage or a crappy bar. 50-cent gets shot 100x and that makes him an artist? Hell, even the worst nu-metal or alt bands have to at least play three chords, few notes on a bass and tap the drums. 50-cent can't even rhyme, it's all about image.
Good point.Originally posted by: amoeba
its capitolism. for every one of those guitar players, I can find 100 violin/piano virtuosos that aren't making it.
Certain rap artist's only talent might be exploiting a market but don't say they don't have talent. lack musical talent, sure, maybe, but they have talent.
Darn, if image is talent I see a lot of talented ghetto-gangstas in Birmingham. They must all be selling out at the concerts, eh? He's right, we can all create better lyrics than 50 IQ, but we can't sell them because we lack connections, we lack a history of drug dealing and getting shot, and we just don't look appealing to the MTV consumers when we're "bouncin'". I'm white, so unless I paint my skin my chances of being a platinum selling rapper are slim. Afterall there are only four white rappers I can think of (beastie boys being three, and they're garbage now). So, I can think if a single white famous rapper.Originally posted by: amoeba

I am not a fan of rap but rap takes talent. If it didn't, all of you would be out making millions rapping.
wouldn't rap be more of image? Even if, say, you have one ATOTer that can rap, would the image of a computer geek, rapping about algorithms help them make millions? What is in right now is kiling because coz ya jus dun Curzzz. I listen to rap, but rarely do I find a rap song that I hear to be worth it. I'd say 35% of the rap i listen to because I find the lyrics to be soooo dumb that its funny, and the other 35% its good for working out. Maybe 30% of it, i actually appreciate the lyrics.
It might be just image but image is talent. nobody will pay you the same amount to sing the same lyrics.
Its just like acting. Anybody can read the script but its in the delivery.

If rap artist are untalented then make up a rap verse right now! I'd say make one paragraph that pertains to your life in general or you could rap about politics or anything else that is worth rapping about. The verse has to be well constructed and it has to have meaning.
It isn't so easy now is it?

But an objective and open mind can see talent regardless of genre.
If you disregard rap music altogether and say that the artists who write rap music are not talented, then you are just being stubborn or ignorant.

I think half of ATOT just proved that rap music is simple.
Anyone can talk.

just because something isn't easy doesn't mean there's talent associated with it. being a pop/rap are the two best examples, others include....lifting heavy objects, nailing your mom, putting your shoes on, and calling a taxi.
Which is why "real", from-the-streets rap, is so much more interesting to listen to than the pre-packaged "pop rap" stuff, even if it is less accessable/understandable to your average listener. (If you're in the Boston era, WERS 88.9FM has some good stuff on, some of it live. They also have a good reggae and trance show too.)Originally posted by: mpitts
I guess that means poetry is simple too. Anyone can rhyme.
Anyone can talk. It's what you say that is important.
