If Plasma is superior to LCD, and cheaper, why is it not selling well?

I'm 48.

I will say that when it first comes on, if it's quiet I can still hear it, but after it's on, I can't.

BTW, if nothing changes (like if I don't fall down and hurt myself or something) going to pull the trigger on a 65VT60 next Monday.

The current Paul's TV coupon codes expire Thursday night. Going to wait and see if maybe they come down on the next round....they've been holding steady for a couple of weeks. The VT's are as low as they've ever been.

Going to get an Amazon price match and get it there, most likely.

Hope that will be good for us for about ten years, then hopefully OLED will be at the same price level/reliability that Plasma is now.

Bought my Samsung 50" DLP ten years ago, when Plasmas were like 15 grand or more for a 42".

Hope to continue that trend in another decade. Can't wait to see the VT in my living room.

Going to have to do some rearranging....the DLP is currently on a Bello stand, with the receiver, cable box/PS3 on the 2nd shelf and center channel on the bottom. Amp is on the floor next to it. Going to hang the VT on the wall, and put the DLP/stand upstairs. Guess I'll have to find a rack for the equipment...and I guess a shelf for that big-ass Definitive center channel. Lots of head-scratching sure to ensue.

i imagine it is sorta like how beats by dre studio headphones aren't taking seriously by audiophiles yet outsell all it's competitors

Oddly enough, I wouldn't doubt if Bose headphones have better acoustical properties. :D

I'll avoid Bose like a plague, but if anything, I've heard enough strong reviews for their premium headphones that I could see myself recommending or even buying a pair.
Granted, I've got about a billion brands and model choices I'd rather try first. I haven't looked into them... but I'm definitely curious about the latest headphones from B+W.

I would have to agree with you on his.

I won't touch bose with a 10 foot pole, I did however get a chance to listen to a set of their noise cancelling headphones at the time they were retailing for $400 and they were worth the money one of the best sets I've used.

But sadly this is the world we live in only so few leaders and the rest are all followers and believe anything and everything in an ad and easily fooled by marketing.

Let me clarify, Beats are to the headphone world, as Bose are to the speaker world. I actually think that Bose makes some good noise canceling headphones though, and ear buds.

They're mediocre sound quality wise but are about the best when it comes to active noise cancelling, so if you really need that they're a good choice. Their in ears are nothing special though. I would still opt for custom IEMs, but you'll end up spending more than even the Bose cost.

Just seemed odd that a noob checked out a noobs profile. My experience was that some people with more than one account did that to check the profile of the other account. It was one way I caught RBMs.

Plasmas are frickin heavy and also there's this new tv that's LCD with 4k resolution. So, I guess it could he considered more futuristic and newer and that's why people buy it.

That's not terrible. My 50" Panasonic (from 2009) weighs about 80 lbs with the stand, 75 w/o.
My 65" Panasonic (P65VT60) weighs about 111 lbs with the stand, 93 lbs w/o.

As for power consumption...these definitely aren't "power friendly."
The 50" draws 400 watts...the 65"...585 watts. :eek:

Weight seems to be around the normal for this size.

Those power consumption numbers are alot tho.

Typical power draw for my Samsung 64` (PN64E8000) is 182 watts

In what way?

Technologically, the display panel itself has almost ZERO to do with almost any TV "flaw" - or, to put it another way: the LCD technology, by itself, brings no gains or losses to the table.


I reckon you mean refresh rate (how long it takes pixels to change) and input lag (how long it takes the display to process and draw the image data received).

No TV technology available today inherently suffers from those problems. You have to check it out on a case by case basis - look at reviews for a particular model, see how it fares.
