If P4 cpu only disipates 55W then why the huge p/s?

The P4 cpu only disipates 55W at 1.4gHz, but requires a huge p/s.

Can RAMBUS QDR suck that much wattage!?!

Madrat, 55watts may not seem that much but when you consider the low core voltage it equates to lots of amps. Plus, power supply ratings are just about meaningless IMHO. You see supplies with +3.3 16amps. +5 25 amps BUT total of 3.3v and 5v 125watts or less.

Have you held your hand against a 55 watt light bulb? Does it seem a little hot? Aren't you glad it's easler to transfer the heat from a CPU to a heatsink than it is to cool a light bulb down to room temperature?

think of it this way; PIII 700MHz produces around 30Watts.... 1.65v 18.2A.
